Canberra Girls Grammar Junior School (Primary and ELC)
About the Business
Welcome to Canberra Girls Grammar Junior School (Primary and ELC), located at 24 Grey Street, Deakin, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, our school is committed to providing a nurturing and empowering educational experience for young girls and women.
At Canberra Girls Grammar Junior School, we believe in creating a world where young people never stop believing that anything is possible. Our much-anticipated music-festival-style concert, returning in 2023, showcases the talent and creativity of our students.
We invite you to take a virtual tour of our Early Learning Centre, Junior School, and Senior School, where you can witness the vibrant and engaging learning environments we offer. Our approach to teaching and learning goes beyond traditional methods, as we aim to develop independent, reflective, and globally aware lifelong learners.
We take pride in our award-winning initiatives, specifically designed to assist students in fulfilling their dreams and creating independence and pride. Our students embark on a quest for learning and knowledge, collecting experiences, skills, and friendships that will stay with them throughout their lives.
Lifelong learning is a gift that carries through from early childhood to the primary years, to the senior school years, and beyond. We encourage our students to actively seek experiences that will develop their wisdom and maturity, to ask questions often, and to seek help or understanding whenever needed.
Our bespoke pastoral care program supports the social and emotional development of our students, complementing their academic pursuits. Tailored age-appropriately to the needs of our students, this program is framed by our signature initiatives.
As a medium-sized boarding house, we pride ourselves on getting to know each and every boarder personally. Our dedicated staff focus on supporting and nurturing each girl, valuing their personal strengths and qualities. Our boarding community includes students from regional and remote locations, as well as local students whose families are on overseas postings or international students.
The co-curricular program at Canberra Girls Grammar Junior School is an integral part of the educational experience. It offers a wide range of activities that support, enhance, and complement the formal academic curriculum. We believe that personal growth occurs when students and staff have access to a broad range of experiences.
We also have a dedicated Defence School Mentor who understands the challenges of the service lifestyle. This program helps students forge meaningful connections with other Defence students and the broader community through various activities.
As an independent non-selective Anglican school, we celebrate diversity, academic excellence, and independence. We would like to acknowledge the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples as the traditional keepers of the land on which we gather. We are inspired by their wisdom, spirituality, and experience, and we commit ourselves to actively work alongside them for reconciliation and justice.
Join us at Canberra Girls Grammar Junior School, where we strive to create a supportive and enriching environment for every student to thrive and achieve their full potential.

"I attended girls grammar for the first few years of primary school, and returned for years 7-9 of highschool. I was being abused and neglected at home, and I remember being pulled aside - just once - for the caked blood in my ears. For months on end I would attend with either a single apple, carrot and margarine on bread prepared for my lunch, or nothing at all, and would beg lunch money. The teachers watched my sunny nature destroyed and then blamed me for being weird, dark and antisocial. By highschool I was being fined for not having the hair ties or socks to comply with uniform policy, as if that was my fault. As if I hadn't completely checked out of life during my multiple childhood nervous breakdowns. I don't remember a single teacher at any age actually asking if I was okay, or investigating what was going on at home. Whenever I pulled myself up from weeks of leave, I'd be saddled with so much work to catch up that it drove me away and into authentic truancy. I can't remember much of their actual education, besides some truly vindictive and oblivious nasties in highschool (including the principal), but it wouldn't overcome their failing me so very badly. I'm still recovering from my childhood at 35... And they let it happen."
"I attended Canberra Girls Grammar School from Year 1 until Year 12. Although I found the Senior School to be tolerable, I found the Junior School absolute torture. My teachers from Year 1-6 where old fashioned, cruel and ridiculously strict. It was a unsupportive and cold environment. When I left I had emotional scares from my experience, and a very low self confidence."
"A great place for kids especially girls. I loved the Girls with Grit program. And really fun."
"Best schooling for child."
