About the Business
Welcome to Pendulum Psychology, located at Thesiger Court in Deakin, Australia. I am David O'Donohue, a registered psychologist and clinical psychology registrar, and I am excited to be accepting new clients. Please note that I do not provide assessment services and I am currently not accepting clients under the age of 18.
At Pendulum Psychology, we believe in the power of understanding the complexities of the human mind and how it influences our emotions and behaviors. From a young age, I have been passionate about helping others and connecting with them on a deep, emotional level. As a facilitator of self-awareness, my goal is to create a safe and accepting space where my clients feel heard, seen, and supported.
In our sessions, there is no agenda, only a genuine desire to understand your unique experiences and guide you towards greater self-harmony. I draw inspiration from Taoist wisdom, which emphasizes the harmony and interdependence of opposites. By combining this perspective with my knowledge of the human mind, I aim to provide valuable insights that can benefit not only my clients but also their families and anyone interested in exploring the intricacies of our shared human experience.
Many individuals seeking psychological support often find themselves struggling with unwanted thoughts, feelings, or behaviors, commonly referred to as 'symptoms'. These symptoms often develop as adaptive responses to past challenges when other options were limited. Our minds have the remarkable ability to encode these solutions into our implicit memory, automating them into what we might consider our 'autopilot'. While this can be helpful in many situations, these once adaptive patterns can become obstacles as circumstances change.
Instead of labeling these patterns as 'bad' and trying to suppress them, my therapeutic approach focuses on recognizing their value in your life. I encourage understanding and curiosity to develop, allowing us to explore the origins and emotional significance of these patterns. For example, an inner critic that seems overwhelming now may have originally served as a protective mechanism to anticipate and manage others' reactions.
Every decision we make has advantages and drawbacks that may not be immediately apparent. Choices made in the past, driven by different emotional states and life circumstances, can lead to unexpected consequences. By engaging with these aspects of our mind on an emotional level, we can find genuine resolution to internal conflicts. This involves cultivating a deep, embodied understanding that goes beyond logical reasoning.
Through therapy, we aim to bring these unconscious decisions into conscious awareness, shedding light on the choices made by different parts of yourself in the past. This process fosters an environment of openness, understanding, and harmony between the conscious and unconscious mind. With enhanced self-awareness, we can explore alternative choices that align better with your current needs and circumstances, or develop a deeper acceptance of choices that continue to be beneficial.
As your therapist, my role is to guide you on this journey of acknowledging and integrating all aspects of your mind. Together, we can work towards improving your mental health and overall well-being. Please note that my services are specifically tailored for adult clients aged 18 and over, and I do not offer psychological assessments or therapeutic services to clients under the age of 18.
If you have any questions or need assistance in booking an appointment, please feel free to reach out to me directly at pendulumpsychology@gmail.com. I look forward to embarking on this transformative journey with you.
