"Edit: really disappointed with how we were treated today. They have introduced a new breakfast set menu - my partner and I wanted to share 1 meal, but was told that we both had to order our own meals because it was a ‘special’ and that the price was already very cheap (which isn’t even that cheap for HK cafe). That just didn’t make any sense to us, especially if we know we weren’t going to eat much. He was so rude and told us to come back later if we wanted the “other” stuff. Honestly, given that experience, I do not see myself coming back and also will be changing my ratings to 1 star. Sadly this experience really overshadowed the food. 4.5 stars I’m so ecstatic over the fact that there is a HK style cafe in Canberra. Sure, the menu is quite minimal in comparison to big cities like Sydney, but it still hits the spot for me. On the day, we ordered: * noodles with spam and double eggs * hot AND cold HK style milk tea * crispy butter pineapple buns. I really enjoyed everything I had, especially the hot milk tea. I love that it comes without sugar so you can adjust to your own liking (just like in Hong Kong). Personally, I think we could’ve shared one bun between two people, the butter can be a bit too much. I absolutely love the decor, lots of wall art of Hong Kong. They even have the old school hot water thermos, which I thought was a cool touch. Though it’s a small menu, there are so many other items I didn’t get a chance to try, like the egg tarts, French toast, tofu fa and the many desserts they have on display. I would recommend that if you’re feeling a bit peckish around 2-3pm, I think it can offer some great options to satisfy those afternoon cravings. In terms of parking, its conveniently located next to Wilson parking - an outdoor parking facility, so IF you can’t find any street parking (let’s be serious, it’s Braddon after all), there’s no need to stress about it. Can’t wait to see how the menu evolves - would be amazing to get a baked pork chop with rice onto the menu (nudges owners)."
"Edit: tried to go here today, no greeting no nothing, just a big bowl of attitude. wanted to share a meal with my partner and the owner had the look of audacity that we should do that! there are definitely better ways of communicating and he needs to learn that, i used to think he was too busy to be nice but now i just realize he is just rude This is the only Hong kong style cafe I know of in Canberra. If you’re thinking it’ll have the same big variety of selections as others in Sydney or Melbourne you’ll be wrong, this isn’t necessary a bad thing if the small selection they have to offer is what you’re after! The HK style milk tea is great! and the noodles are good enough to enjoy! i wasn’t a fan of the pineapple bun since it didn’t taste fresh to me. We missed out on the egg tarts so i’ll definitely come back for a snack! I think if they are able to add more to their menu i’d come back even more! it’s a good start to this small place"
"Food was absolutely amazing like what I had in Hong Kong. It was so impressive about all the decorations in the restaurant. Will definitely come back again when I visit ACT next time !"
"Visiting the Act and can find an authentic Hong Kong Style Cafe is amazing. Even in Sydney is getting hard! Only suggestion is to have a strong exhaust fan system to take those lovely cooking smell away."
"The only Hong Kong street food Cafe I've known in Canberra and tried so far in Australia. Their noodles with egg was simple but interesting and actually inspired me to try it myself at home. Their dessert with mango sago pomelo and fresh coconut mango sago were excellent and I would recommend both of them. Yours truly @fooderarri"
