"New place for me, but well worth the travel as its a great little pub in middle of Gawler. Lovely meal great atmosphere and friendly staff I visit again. All dishes were loved by our group."

"We drive from Whyalla regularly to Gawler for medical reasons. We love to go to the Southern for a good meal the first day as we are tired after the drive. However this time the experience was terrible. When ordering the girl transposed the amount. We paid cash and she couldn't work out how much change to give. Waited 1 1/2 hours for our meals. Take away seemed to be priority. Ordered drinks and they had to go get more glasses. Everyone was running around so disorganised. Had to ask 3 times where our meal was. We arrived at 6.05 pm. Sorry we won't be back. Always loved coming to this hotel."

"Great experience. We went on Schnitzel Wednesday where they had schnitzels for $14 before toppings. The schnitzel was big and was served with a good selection of mash and vegetables. The service was very friendly and quick. It was reasonably quiet being a Wednesday night with plenty of tables available. Toilets are good and clean. There is a big gaming area but you can't hear it in the dining room area. Nice decor in the hotel as well and a good size car park outside."

"First time my family have been here in 5 years, reason being is food was just ok and it appeared most went for the salad bar etc. We came tonight with some friends who visit here every 2 to 4 weeks. We arrived at the start of dinner service to find the floors filthy smeared with chocolate cake and icing, chips and food crumbs. Also crumbs of cake and food on the table. When ordering, I was told there was no Apple juice for our daughter, however upon sitting down there were many on the other side of the bar. Some of the staff were amazing, others stuck up. 5 pieces of bread and butter for 6 people, we had to ask twice for another piece. 2 or so mistakes with our food. Yep, as suspected food still average and big wait (considering we were the first to order). When my friend asked for something he often gets for dessert he was told by the lady oh, I don't think we do them, as she pretended to look around, he said you did a few weeks ago when we last came, she said no we havnt done them for years. Shelves, cupboards and fridges all spare and bare looking, the place clearly hasn't had a good clean in months or years even, kids playground smelled dirty, Disused salad bar still in place to show you what you can't get any more, as is the formerly self serve iced cream machine which is no longer self serve. All in all, pretty average experience and a lot of laziness evident. unfortunate, so much wasted potential."
