Reviews
"We came across this restaurant after being turned down by a busy cafe that didn't even give us a chance to wait for a table. I was wondering why all the fuss about long serving time. As I was reading the second bad review from google map, all dishes have been served. All dishes were beautifully presented, tasted good and had decent portion size. All family members enjoyed the meals. I took my hand photo alongside a dish and as a counter to a previous bad review in regard to teeny weeny portion of a meal that is similar in comparison of a kid hand. The ambiance was great. It was unassuming from the street however as I stepped in it was tremendously spacious and lots of table available. This restaurant is genuinely an option to consider when you are in a bustling Vic Park strip and struggle to get a table to dine in."
"Not authentic Japanese taste. The Serving is very small. Rice served cold. They offered to change the rice, I did mention no microwave please, if there’s no hot rice, then we will forget about the rice. The new rice came with a hardened texture and bowl was hot (looked like microwave). Beef teriyaki bento - the beef was stale, smelly and off. Had to return it. The miso soup was too salty, unable to drink. Teriyaki chicken sushi came with pink chicken, not sure if it’s been cooked well. Karaage chicken came in dark colour - we guessed it’s been fried more than once, didn’t taste fresh. Poor standard and highly priced. Staff aren’t Japanese & not fluent in English. It’s difficult to communicate with them. Not recommended and won’t return."
"Had the best chicken katsu curry and crispy katsudon ever. Also ordered their delicious chicken karaage but was too hungry to even take pictures of it. Overall dining experience was amazing and will definitely come back again!"
"Omuya Japanese Restaurant is a moderately priced Japanese restaurant located on a busy street. Upon entering, we noticed that the restaurant was fairly empty with only one occupied table (dinner period), which raised some concerns. We ordered four meals, but unfortunately, only three were delivered, and we had to chase for the fourth meal. The Serviette holder was empty and had to ask multiple times to refill. Ordering was slow and took a while. This is not an ideal dining experience, and it detracted from the overall enjoyment of our meal. The food was pleasing, with good flavour and presentation. However, the portion sizes were smaller than expected given the price point, which we found to be on the expensive side. On average, each serving cost around A$20, which seemed a bit steep given the serving size. (That's my kid's hand foe comparison) Omuya Japanese Restaurant had good-tasting food, but the portion sizes were smaller than expected, and the prices were expensive. Additionally, the service experience was subpar due to the missing meal and having to follow up for it. The relatively empty restaurant compared to other nearby establishments should have alerted us. Give it a try and decide for yourself."
