"There is a middle aged/old white woman who works here who constantly patrols the makeup section where my friends and I (a group of Asian individuals) are browsing as soon as WE enter the store. She reminds us to only use the testers every time we visit. This itself isn’t a huge deal but taking into consideration how frequent we visit the store (1-2 times a week after school) and how we have never used any unopened products, irrespective of if she actually has seen us doing so, makes it clear that this constant patrolling/accusations of misuse is not a mere coincidence. Other than the fact that this makes us feel uncomfortable, we have never seen her do the same to white customers who are present in the store or who are browsing nearby — she never fails to only remind US of the store policy and scrutinise OUR actions. These odd instances of profiling feel quite micro-aggressive and honestly, to an extent, racist. It makes the store incredibly uninviting and a bother to visit. We just want to be left alone to do our shopping without constant surveillance especially since we have done nothing wrong."
