Reviews of Helena River Steiner School
"I encourage parents who have had issues with HRSS to also review this school. Five stars makes only sense if you have had no issues with the school. There's quite a few of those here from former staff. Regardless of the issues I've had with the management, the school has had some dedicated teachers in the past. Sadly there is a high turnover of staff. My son is the only boy his age in his class, only two younger boys and the rest are girls. My son who is 12 was put in a meeting the school refers to as a restorative process. He was shaken and scared being questioned on something he'd said to the EA by three adults. The school did not contact me, yet still denies any wrong practice. Do not be fooled by the phrase RESTORATIVE PRACTICE! I also work as an EA. First thing to do is: contact the parents! NOT cover up any issues with a staff member. The school issued a newsletter with fluffy words justifying this practice, despite several families disagreeing with it. The 'Leadership Team' is a group of the principal's friends. You will be advised to issue a grievance to the governing body of the school who appears to set the table at the same tea party. You will discover this once you have a problem with your children. I'm not the only one and again, I encourage those parents who have, to stand forward so other children and parents aren't exposed to the same ordeals. Hopefully one day HRSS will change its practice and realise that they need to have the parents and the children to feel safe at the school. I'd happily take down this if it was the case. But at the moment there is little professional integrity in the management of HRSS. One parent said: ZERO INTEGRITY"
"We were blown away by the warmth of this school when we did the tour. The teachers seem so dedicated and it really feels like the children are well cared for while being challenged and supported in their learning. Class sizes are much smaller then at our local public school, which we see as a major plus. Also, the Steiner curriculum is a pathway to university so the children have all options open to them after highschool."
"Both of my two children (Kindy and Class 5 currently) are thriving in this wonderful school. Our oldest child has made a seamless transition from homeschooling after leaving the governemnt school system in the early years. Now, not only do they both love the curriculum, they love the sense of community and how truly seen and heard they are by their teachers. Both are Neurodivergent and such unique, quirky little souls who are able to express themselves freely without fear of judgement. There is no one way to be, which is modelled for the children by the faculty and parent body, creating a diverse atmosphere where children can show up authentically and immerse in the days learning."
