Reviews
"I am not one to write public reviews, however I reached out to the Mayfair via email, and they haven't bothered to respond. I recently had the chance to dine at The Den on Saturday, June 24th, with a group of 14 guests. Unfortunately, I left feeling underwhelmed and dissatisfied with the overall experience. Upon arrival, I was surprised to be presented with set menu options and given a mere five minutes to make a decision. In my opinion, it would have been more appropriate to inform me about the set menu when making the booking, especially with a large group and multiple menus to choose from. The limited and disappointing menu choices put me in an uncomfortable position in front of my guests. Had I been informed earlier, I could have made alternative arrangements for dinner, considering the lack of options. Adding to the disappointment, it was mentioned that the kitchen was "not prepared" for our table, despite the reservation being made weeks in advance. This lack of preparation only added to the frustration of the evening. Out of the available set menu options, my group and I opted for the most affordable one, as the other choices seemed unreasonably priced given the already underwhelming experience. The two-course option we selected only provided one meal each per course. When we questioned this, we were offered additional options for each course but were not informed about the extra $5 charge to add an extra meal until after confirming our menu choice. While the waitstaff were pleasant and polite, we expected a higher level of service and attentiveness considering the price and location. Unfortunately, the drink service was slow, and we even received incorrect orders. We had to remind the staff about forgotten drinks, and we believe that more frequent check-ins would have encouraged us to order additional beverages. The lack of communication regarding the set menu and pricing prior to the reservation was particularly frustrating. Paying $70 per person for a lackluster menu and average service seemed unreasonable, even for a hotel restaurant. It is disappointing that we were not given the opportunity to explore other dining options with greater variety and more affordable prices due to this lack of communication. On a positive note, I must mention that our night took a turn for the better when we visited Hennessy upstairs. Hennessy never fails to provide a great time, and it was a saving grace after our disappointing dining experience at The Den."
"Enjoyed our dinner, food was great, Stuart was outstanding servicing our party"
"Simple delicious and hearty food located just the lobby area. Great low lit ambience. Relaxing restaurant to enjoy the night after a long day of exploring Adelaide."
"When I need a coffee after 3pm in the city, other than a restaurant - not the ambience you want if you just want a relaxing coffee - the best place to go for an also really fabulous coffee is The Den, downstairs at The Mayfair Hotel on King William St, Adelaide CBD. It’s always very relaxing and so plush without feeling exclusive here. The cakes are worth the carbs and again, did I say it already? The coffee is fabulous. If you drink a Cappuccino, I rate these on silkiness of froth and smoothness of coffee. Sour aftertaste? Not here. Fabulous, ‘Moussey’ or Mousse like? froth - tick! Atmosphere, plush as aforementioned but it’s relaxing, pleasant, swish and there’s a minimally outfitted bar as well, if you’d also like an aperitif with your coffee. And their wonderful rooftop honey when they have it. Probably a little known fact, but The Mayfair Hotel actually produces it’s own honey on the roof. It’s very good. A bit stirred into a Piccolo Cafe Latte, too - is to die for. This is really a lovely place to step back, have a bit of a rest and relax over a coffee - on your own after a busy day around town or to meet up with friends or family. After 3pm or any time, as a hotel too, they’re open just about all the time but check opening hours online first. @more.morsels"
"Visited The Den at the Mayfair Hotel for afternoon cake & beverage, $15 altogether per person - not bad! Service was very friendly, and a minor but important point but the bathrooms were fancy and quite pristine. As for the cakes themselves, we ordered a variety to try out and each one tasted as beautiful as they looked. Gorgeous ambience for an afternoon tea, I must say I felt rather underdressed, but it was a pleasure."
