UWA Dental School

Welcome to the UWA Dental School, located in Nedlands, Australia. As WA's only tertiary dental training center, we offer aspiring and existing dentists a range of practical and innovative postgraduate courses in our high-tech dental teaching and learning facility.

At the UWA Dental School, we operate the Oral Health Centre of WA (OHCWA), which serves as a centralised public tertiary referral center and dental teaching hospital. Here, eligible patients receive treatment on behalf of the State Government of WA. Our dedicated team of clinicians, dental clinical assistants, and laboratory technicians provide a full range of general and specialty dental services to the Western Australian community, ensuring a high standard of care.

As a student at the UWA Dental School, you will be based at the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia, a state-of-the-art dental teaching hospital and learning facility on the UWA Health campus in Nedlands. Under the close supervision of highly experienced and skilled tutors, you will have the opportunity to treat patients and gain hands-on experience. Additionally, you can observe general and specialist dentists treating a wide range of dental conditions. Upon successful completion of our programs, you can register with the Dental Board of Australia as a dentist and immediately enter the profession.

One of our flagship programs is the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry, a three-year, full-time specialist training program accredited by the Australian Dental Council for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. We offer specializations in Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, and Oral Medicine. At the UWA Dental School, our research aims to understand the cellular molecular mechanism of oral biology, supporting and aiding oral tissue regeneration and healing. We also focus on pediatric oral health, addressing the major oral health-related needs of children, adolescents, and individuals with special healthcare needs. Our research group is nationally and internationally reputed for their outstanding contributions to the field of oral diseases.

We are committed to providing evidence-based research on root canal treatment and improving diagnostic imaging skills and knowledge through our oral imaging research. Additionally, our research group aims to translate biomaterials and nanotechnology research to clinical dentistry, providing better dental treatment for patients.

In collaboration with the Australian Dental Association (WA Branch), the UWA Dental School offers high-level continuing professional development as part of WA Dental CPD. This involves continuing dental education, clinical excellence, and dental and oral research relevant to the profession. We are proud of our partnership with ADAWA, which demonstrates our commitment to quality professional development.

Each year, we invite a distinguished scholar from outside Western Australia to undertake research or teach at our school. This Fellowship awardee presents a lecture, enriching our academic environment and fostering knowledge exchange.
