The Pinnacles Desert
Nambung, Western Australia, Australia
About The Pinnacles Desert
Welcome to The Pinnacles Desert, a captivating and unique tourist attraction located in the Shire of Dandaragan, Western Australia. As an establishment, park, and point of interest, we offer visitors the opportunity to explore Western Australia's national parks confidently, responsibly, and safely.
At The Pinnacles Desert, you can indulge in a variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, paddling, snorkeling, and diving. We also provide campgrounds for those looking to experience the beauty of nature in non-bookable locations. Our institution recognizes and acknowledges the Yued people as the traditional owners of Nambung National Park, honoring their connection to the land.
The main highlight of The Pinnacles Desert is the thousands of massive limestone pillars that rise from a stark landscape of yellow sand. These pillars create one of Australia's most intriguing landscapes and some of them reach an impressive height of 3.5 meters. The pinnacles come in various shapes, from jagged, sharp-edged columns to tombstone-like formations. Astute observers will notice features that provide clues to their origin, such as cross-bedding structures and mushroom-like shapes formed by remnants of a calcrete capping.
To explore the fascinating Pinnacles Desert on foot, we provide parking bays along a one-way drive trail. However, we kindly ask visitors to treat the pinnacles with respect and refrain from climbing on these fragile structures. Your cooperation ensures the preservation of this natural wonder for future generations.
When planning your visit, consider traveling with a personal location beacon (PLB) for your safety. In the event of an emergency or rescue, a PLB could potentially save your life. Additionally, you can visit the Atlas of Living Australia to discover a list of species recorded within a 5km radius of Pinnacles Desert Lookout and Drive, showcasing the diversity of the surrounding ecosystem.
As you embark on the 4.5 km drive trail through the mesmerizing limestone structures, you'll feel transported to another world. The Pinnacles Desert offers a truly unique and awe-inspiring experience that will leave you with unforgettable memories.
The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional owners throughout the region and their enduring connection to the land, waters, and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures, as well as the Elders who have contributed to the rich heritage of this land.
Come and immerse yourself in the magic of The Pinnacles Desert, where nature's wonders await your discovery.

Reviews of The Pinnacles Desert
"Well worth the drive from Perth City. Takes about 2.5 hours. We went for the pinnacle drive which is about 4-5km long. You can stop your car to take some pics as long as you don’t block the way. Spectacular views!"
"Perth local but pinnacles always a good spot to show visitors to WA. A must see for anyone traveling. Only a couple hours Nth of Perth its a bit of a must do. Amazing natural specimens"
"For me, this was the perfect balance between not trekking totally into the Outback, but still experiencing something unique to Australia. Drive was an easy 2 hours from Perth. You can do a 100M or 3KM walk into the Pinnacles themselves or a 4KM drive round the well laid out track with stopping areas. I also stayed until 19:00 to see an amazing sky I’ve never seen before the a real ‘dark sky’ area. Staff were hugely helpful."
"It was nice driving around this desert. But you will want to get out as well to take some photos. There are some areas where you can stop to get out of the car to walk around enjoying the uniqueness + beauty of nature. Worth the visit, very interesting place !"
