"Important - you must turn over the mattress every 6 weeks - otherwise Zen Beds void warranty We purchased a Zen Bed top of the range king sized latex mattress for $5,300. We visited the show room twice in making this decision. It was such a lot of money, but we were told the mattress would last for 20 years. Also the sales lady mentioned the value of spending so many hours a day sleeping on a more natural product. So we decided it was a sound investment. We were wrong. We were never told this mattress would have to be rotated and flipped every 6 weeks. Not once over the two visits, and not when we placed the order. This mattress is very thick and heavy. There are no handles sewn into the mattress to aid with turning - as there is with other mattresses that might indicate an expectation of rotating - or provide any assistance of the same. In fact, the mattress needs to be disassembled to be flipped. It is 3 latex mattresses encased in a zipped cover. It required 2-3 people (3 people for the thickest middle layer) to deliver and install the mattress initially. We are in our early 50’s. The expectation, assuming this mattress is to last for 20 yrs, is that into our 70’s we are to dis-assemble and flip/rotate this mattress every 6 weeks. This process currently takes about 20 mins with my husband, myself and our healthy fit, strong teenage children. Every 6 weeks. There is no chance we could do this alone when we are in our 70s. Had we known every 6 weeks we would have to do this, we absolutely would NOT have paid this much for a mattress. We wouldn’t have bought any mattress requiring that level of physical exertion as part of its maintenance. As we were not aware of this, we had not been flipping / rotating the mattress. My husband and I are healthy BMI. About 18 months after we bought the mattress, we noticed it was developing a noticeable indent where we each slept. The mattress also started to feel hard and uncomfortable. We were then told we should have been flipping / rotating the mattress every 6 months. And the fault was ours. When we explained we would never have purchased the mattress with this expectation, and raised the idea of a refund / alternative, we were then told “You've acknowledged you have not been performing this as warranty required.” Despite now rotating / flipping every 6 weeks - which is an arduous process! - the indents re-appear after 1 week. And the mattress is hard and uncomfortable. After spending $5,300 on this awful mattress we then had to purchase a mattress topper - a wonderful product called Minijumpuk Sleep Therapy Multilayered wool mattress topper - $900 - which makes the mattress a little more bearable. Actually I think this product could be put directly on our wooden bed base and still offer comfort. It’s so good. Anyway, back to this mattress. We would be happy if they refunded a percentage of our purchase price. We are at the point we want to get rid of this awful Zen Bed mattress - I don’t want to sell it, as I can’t bare to do to someone else what has been done to us. I also don’t know how to dispose of this. It is too heavy and large for the curb-side rubbish collection. Once we figure out how to get rid of this, we will be much more thorough in our research for our next mattress. I hope our experience helps someone else avoid making the very expensive mistake we made."
