Welcome to Outside the Square Psychology, a private psychology practice located in Burwood, Australia. Our institution is dedicated to providing high-quality counselling and assessment services in both Metropolitan Victoria (Burwood) and Rural Victoria (Traralgon).

At our Burwood office in Melbourne, we currently have a position available for an Assessing Psychologist specializing in ASD assessment, Cognitive assessment, and Specific Learning Difficulties assessment. This position is up to 0.6 EFT.

In addition, we have a 1.0 EFT or job share Registered Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist position available at our Traralgon office in country Victoria.

We also have a 0.6 EFT Maternity Leave position available at our Traralgon office starting from August 2023 for an initial six-month appointment.

On our website, you will find detailed information about the qualifications of our staff, the various assessment and counselling services we offer, and our schedule of fees. We understand that affordability is important, and many of our clients are able to access our services partially subsidized by a GP Mental Health Care Plan, private health insurance, or fully covered through NDIS, VOCAT, or TAC. We also work with agencies such as Anglicare, Berry Street, DFFH, and the Orange Door who fund sessions or assessments for their clients.

We charge the NDIS scheduled psychology fee and offer a discounted rate for families using Medicare and those with out-of-pocket costs.

In addition to our counselling, assessments, and NDIS services, our Burwood office also hosts Cheryl Song Educational Consultancy. Cheryl specializes in providing assessments and the Multisensory Structured Language (MSL) approach to Dyslexia intervention. She can be reached at 0403 611 993.

Our goal is to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on their child's development. We also focus on helping children better understand themselves and the world around them. Furthermore, we strive to improve professionals' understanding to enable better support for parents and children.

Outside the Square Psychology was founded in 2009 by Principal Psychologist Kirsty Kerr and has since grown to employ fifteen staff across our two locations. Our practice initially started on Toorak Road in Camberwell but relocated to Banksia Street in Burwood in 2013. From 2012, we expanded our services to include outreach sessions in Traralgon, and in 2017, we moved our Traralgon practice to our current premises on Deakin Street.

We work with both neurotypical and neurodiverse children, adolescents, and young adults, offering assessment, diagnosis, ongoing counselling support, behavior intervention, and parent support. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we introduced telehealth support, which will continue to be available in the future. This allows for convenient sessions that reduce travel time and costs, and it also enables children to have sessions at school to minimize disruptions to their learning.

Our assessments cover a range of areas, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cognitive Assessment, Educational Assessment/Academic Achievement Assessment, Adaptive Skills Assessment, Behavioral Assessment, and Assessment for School Funding Purposes.

The word "Psychology" means "Knowledge of the Mind," and our psychologists are particularly skilled in developmental and educational psychology. We understand the typical development of children and how individuals think, learn, and make sense of the world. We also recognize that individuals with developmental, social, or behavioral disorders may think and learn differently, and we have expertise in techniques to enhance their skills.
