Ipswich Flexible Learning Centre
About the Business
Welcome to Ipswich Flexible Learning Centre (IFLC), located at Queen Victoria Parade in Ipswich, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, IFLC is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for children and young people, where their safety, wellbeing, and participation are paramount.
IFLC is a secondary school that caters to young people in years 7 to 12 from Ipswich and the surrounding areas. Initially established in 2006 as a mobile Outreach Programme by Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA), IFLC aimed to build trusting relationships and provide educational pathways for young people in Ipswich who required flexible learning choices. Due to the growing need for this program, IFLC moved to its current location on Queen Victoria Parade in 2012 and became an accredited school within the EREAFSN network.
Since its inception, IFLC has provided a safe and inclusive environment for young people to engage in socially inclusive education. The school operates based on principles of Respect, Honesty, Participation, and Safe and Legal, fostering a holistic learning environment that offers relevant and meaningful choices for students. The social and emotional needs of young people are recognized, and they are supported in developing key academic skills, autonomy, and responsibility for their own learning and educational goals.
At Ipswich Flexible Learning Centre, we offer an inclusive and holistic learning environment that promotes the educational goals and wellbeing of young people. With small learning groups, our focus is on embedding literacy and numeracy skills in a curriculum that is directed and negotiated by the young person. Our curriculum framework draws from the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) and the Australian Curriculum, providing various educational opportunities, including certifications in Functional Literacy, Vocational Pathways, Visual Art, Music Industry, and Information Digital Media and Technology.
In addition to academic pursuits, IFLC offers practical hands-on skills and experiences through electives such as wood and metalwork, cooking, art, computing, music, sports, and water activities. We also encourage community participation and have established partnerships with key agencies in Ipswich and the surrounding areas, including Headspace, CHYMS, PCYC, ICYS, Kambu, and Apprenticeship Queensland. Our school camps and adventure-based learning programs further support young people's health and wellbeing.
To ensure the safety of our students, we have designated Child Safeguarding Officers, including Dave Capra, Luke Royes, Tim Hill, and Kaye Pace.
