About the Business
Welcome to Australia in the Wild, located at 131a Strong Road, Dayboro. We are an establishment and point of interest dedicated to showcasing the incredible biodiversity of Australia's birdlife and wildlife.
Tom, our experienced guide, has been observing, recording, and photographing birds and wildlife around the world since the 1970s. In 1987, he settled in Brisbane, Australia, and immersed himself in the study of Queensland's birdlife. With his extensive knowledge of bird calls, behaviors, and species characteristics, Tom has seen an impressive 670 bird species in Australia, with 540 of them in Queensland alone.
In addition to his personal birding pursuits, Tom has been actively involved in assisting various academic organizations in analyzing bioacoustic data recordings, participating in bird surveys, and creating media to raise awareness about the importance of nature.
At Australia in the Wild, we offer tailor-made wildlife excursions in the Greater Brisbane and South-East Queensland area. Our tours can follow a set itinerary based on your specific interests, such as a wish-list or target species, or they can include visits to national parks and reserves. You have the option to use your own rental car or travel in Tom's AWD vehicle, which can accommodate a maximum of four people, including the driver.
One of our popular excursions is a drive to Lamington National Park, where you can search for notable species like Albert's Lyrebird, Paradise Riflebird, and Regent Bowerbird. For more elusive species like the Rufous Scrub-bird, the trip may require more than one day and an overnight stay.
Another exciting trip takes you to Stanthorpe, where you can search for Turquoise Parrot, Diamond Firetail, Chestnut-rumped Heathwren, and Spotted Quailthrush. Similar to the Rufous Scrub-bird, the Superb Lyrebird may require an overnight stay in a motel.
For birding enthusiasts, we offer rainforest and eucalypt forest birding experiences, where you can encounter species like Paradise Riflebird, Noisy Pitta, Wompoo Fruit-Dove, Grey Goshawk, Rose-crowned Fruit-dove, Marbled Frogmouth, and Greater Sooty Owl.
If you're looking to take a piece of Australia's wild beauty home with you, we have a collection of wildlife photo books curated by Tom. These books feature stunning images captured in the Samsonvale and Dayboro areas, showcasing the diverse range of animals that call this land home. Each photograph captures the essence and spirit of these animals, bringing them to life on the pages of these books.
