About the Business
Welcome to Tai Tai, South Bank's newest Asian dining experience located at 114 Grey Street in South Brisbane, Australia. Our establishment is not just a restaurant, but a point of interest where you can indulge in a rich culinary journey that pays homage to the traditions of Chinese and South East Asian cuisines.
The name Tai Tai holds a special significance for us, as it is the proud tribute to the owner's ancestral great, great grandmother. In Chinese culture, Tai Tai traditionally refers to the head wife of a man with multiple wives. In the household, her primary responsibility was to oversee the kitchen and collaborate with a team of skilled cooks. Tai Tai and her helpers would meticulously source the finest local and regional ingredients to create dishes that were renowned for their sublime tastes and textures.
Throughout her life, Tai Tai passed down her treasured recipes to her descendants, and we are incredibly fortunate to have inherited her love for cooking. Her unique way of blending flavors and using food for wellbeing has become an integral part of our own cooking pursuits. We believe that Tai Tai's intention was not to keep her recipes exclusive, but rather to encourage us to embrace the concept of infusing ideas and creating innovative dishes.
At Tai Tai, we strive to honor the legacy of our ancestral matriarch by offering a dining experience that showcases the best of Chinese and South East Asian cuisines. Our menu is carefully crafted with a focus on using the freshest ingredients and authentic cooking techniques to bring out the true essence of each dish. From traditional favorites to modern interpretations, our culinary offerings aim to delight your taste buds and transport you to the vibrant streets of Asia.
Whether you are seeking a memorable dining experience, a place to celebrate special occasions, or simply a cozy spot to enjoy delicious food, Tai Tai is the perfect destination. Our warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with impeccable service, ensures that every visit is a truly remarkable one.
Join us at Tai Tai and embark on a culinary adventure that celebrates the rich history and flavors of Chinese and South East Asian cuisines. "Had my 40th here with a small group of 12 family members. We got seated at the private lazy susan table which was perfect for our small celebration. We shared all our generously packed plates and thoroughly enjoyed the flavours of each one. Our favourites were the crispy pork belly - crispy and tender and packed full of flavour, duck dishes and bao buns. The service was very welcoming, we weren't left for long periods of time and staff were very attentive. The cocktails were delicious, some of the best I've had...esp the margaritas. No doubt a place we'll make our go to whenever we're in the area."
"Really enjoyed the hainanese chicken! was a very big serving, ended up having leftovers! loved the chili sauce! the duck was good too but it didn't come with many pancakes and we had to order more."
"We’ve been wanting to come here for quite a while but they are quite busy and bookings are recommended. Easy enough to make an online booking. We were received with a warm welcome and ordering was either via the waitress or the QR code. The food was spectacular and the portions were substantial. Next time we will order a couple dishes and share as each and every dish has a flavour of its own to enjoy and share. Perfect place to have a meal prior to a visit to QPAC. Allow sufficient time."
"Our first time dining at Tai Tai, really impressed with the freshness of the food, highly recommend, shared plate of dumplings, spring rolls to share for start, special fried rice, char kway teow, seafood combination and the best steam ginger deep sea cod. Food came out quickly. freshness of seafood and fish, not overcook, not greasy. Staff could do with a bit of paying attention to our request for food and drinks but overall a great place to eat. Prices on a bit of high side but for Chinese Restaurant at South Bank you can expect that."
"This dog friendly restaurant is the hype! It’s not often I can bring a Coco(dog) with me to nice establishments for dinner. Located in the hustle and bustle of Grey street, entertained by the surrounding and ambiance, dining with great company and the food was on point. Absolutely delicious fried rice and even tastier dumplings! (To the owner) Please do lunch time yum cha! We would become regulars!!! This restaurant is a great place for Chinese cuisine! The meals are full of flavour, huge servings and great to share. The staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. They gave us great recommendations. We Can’t wait to go again!"
