Monash Health Gender Clinic 79-81 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda, Victoria 3182
About the Business
Welcome to Monash Health Gender Clinic, located at 79-81 Fitzroy Street in St Kilda, Australia. As a state-wide service, we are dedicated to providing individualized and person-centered care for trans, gender diverse, and non-binary individuals, as well as their families, partners, and the community. Our primary goal is to improve the health outcomes and overall well-being of all our consumers.
At the Gender Clinic, we accept referrals for individuals aged 16 and above who reside in the state of Victoria. In addition to our direct care services, we also offer support, information, and education for healthcare providers, as well as community and advocacy groups. We value the input of our consumers and regularly involve our Consumer Advisory Panel in decision-making processes to continuously improve our services.
Please note that our clinic currently has a long waitlist, with appointments being scheduled for clients whose referrals were received in February 2022. However, we have recently expanded our clinical staff, and we are gradually seeing a reduction in waiting times.
While on the waitlist, we offer the option of referral to the Monash Health Laser hair removal clinic (approximately eight months wait time) and the Latrobe University Voice clinic (12 months wait time). After consultations with our Gender Clinic clinicians, you may also be referred for gender-affirming hormones at the Monash Health Endocrinology clinic (three months wait time).
We understand the importance of accessibility and offer both telehealth and in-person appointments at the Pride Centre. If you prefer to use a private side entrance instead of the main front entrance, please inform our admin team.
To streamline our referral process, we now require secure eReferrals through HealthLink. We no longer accept referrals via fax, email, or post. For detailed instructions on how to send a referral, please visit the eReferrals page on our website.
We would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Jaco Erasmus, who has been with the Gender Clinic since September 2009 and served as Clinical Lead since early 2016. Jaco has played a vital role in advancing healthcare for trans and gender diverse individuals, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Exciting news! We have recently relocated to the Victorian Pride Centre on December 15, 2021. This move enables us to provide our services in a vibrant and inclusive environment.
We are proud to have been recognized at the Monash Health Awards ceremony in the LGBTI Health category. Our application highlighted the transformative work of our Consumer Advisory Panel, and we are grateful for their contributions to our service.

Reviews
"Yo, went here because Im a biological women who suffered with some gender dysphoria. I was seeking some assistance because I wasn’t feeling woman in my own skin. But this clinic only wants to offer testosterone. I didn’t want to transition to a man! Im so glad that I didn’t start on a road to transitioning to a man. I’ve sought help elsewhere and now I’m a very happy women in my own natural born body. Which I feel is healthier than the alternative that was offered here. So unless you are want to transition to another gender then I recommend to look elsewhere."
"Waited almost 2 years to be accepted into the clinic, had a psych review which I had already done and then released from the clinic without any real guidance around my transition or what the next steps were etc. Felt like a massive waste of time to be left without any help at all."
"This place took me as a patient of theirs back in 2018 and promised me so many things yet delivered nothing. I was not allowed a support person in the room, and was diagnosed with gender dysphoria after just a ten minute consultation. Endocrinologists are gatekeepers and refuse to issue medications accordingly, even though the so-called "risks" have been explained to me and I've agreed to them. When they took me on they promised me counselling, support groups, laser and speech therapy. I've received NONE of this and continue to be given the run around and have it all blamed on myself, and Covid. (THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON LONG BEFORE COVID). The previous psychologist in charge, Jaco Erasmus was a rude, and condescending person who did nothing at all to help and refused to even see me. Endochonology have refused to see me in person and everythijg is via Telehealth . Not ONCE have I been checked physically by endocrinology or even asked if I have issues. Avoid at all costs. I'd say more court cases are coming against them."
"The care and professionalism from the staff is outstanding. I know there is a lot of hate from other reviews but don't forget this is only one piece of the puzzle to everyone's journey and everything takes time."
"No reason to ever go here now that informed consent has caught on. The remnant of an era in healthcare where trans clients were treated with disdain and apathy. I would highly suggest you thoroughly research the current and previous directors of the clinic. There is some very interesting info out there - when it has avoided deletion."
