"In June 2023, I came across the YPSimaging website, which mentioned the bulk billing pregnancy scans. Intrigued by this slogan, I decided to call and inquire about the cost of an USS dating scan within 10 weeks of pregnancy. They initially quoted me an out-of-pocket expense of $30 for that timeframe but mentioned that the cost would differ for USS dating scans conducted after Week 11. Having undergone a blood test on 17/5/2023, which indicated that I was only 2-3 weeks pregnant, I eagerly scheduled the USS dating scan for the beginning of July. Despite the long journey from the CBD to Keyborough, which took almost 50 minutes each way, I was willing to make the trip in order to save money. I valued every penny saved during this period. To my dismay, during the scan appointment, the radiology staff surprised me by stating that the baby was already over Week 11, resulting in an increased out-of-pocket fee of $150. This news caught me off guard as it contradicted my initial blood test report. With utmost respect and a sense of disappointment, I requested them to review the result once again via email. Today, my GP received the sonographer's report, which confirmed that the baby was indeed at Week 11 and 0 days on the day of the scan. Despite my request for a review via email, the center did not respond directly to my email but sent the report directly to my GP. Feeling frustrated, I felt compelled to lodge a complaint with the Health Complaint Commissioner. Eventually, they reached out to me via phone call, but unfortunately, they maintained their stance. Seeking further clarification, I returned to my GP, paying an additional out-of-pocket fee of $50 for a consultation to obtain another referral form. I conducted a second USS dating scan, which conveniently required only a 10-minute drive from the CBD. Interestingly, the out-of-pocket cost for this scan amounted to $80, and the result confirmed that my initial scan had indeed taken place before Week 11. While I would like to acknowledge the staff for their friendliness throughout the process, I can't help but express my disappointment with the significant cost disparity between their advertised bulk billing pregnancy scan and the actual out-of-pocket expense. The USS dating scan priced at $150 in July 2023 for a Week 11 USS dating scan felt excessively expensive, leaving me dissatisfied with the overall experience."
