"My first experience at Skin Kandy was amazing and I left a really positive review on their website. Unfortunately, the aftercare I've received and (as I've now found out) the initial piercing was not good. I got my 3rd lobe piercing and flat done. The flat is through cartilage. Both were pierced with 8mm earrings. I was happy with the fact they use a needle and not a gun and everything was sterilised and clean. Everything was healing really well and then I accidentally lay on the piercings when I subconsciously moved over in my sleep. The next day my flat piercing got really swollen. Because it was only done with an 8mm bar, the swelling started to swollow my piercing which made it more swollen and sore. I went back to Skin Kandy to see if they could sort it out. The girl there was very apologetic and explained it should have been done with a bigger bar. She attempted to get it out but ended up making it much worse and it bled quite a lot. She didn't clean it up but just told me to go to the drs. I actually ended up in the bathroom crying because of how much it hurt. I ended up in a&e needing gas and a nurse and doctor working together to get it out. I am now on antibiotics to help with the infection. It was a pretty horrible experience and I'm also gutted I've now lost that piercing. It's very frustrating that it could have been avoided if I had the correct sized bar in the first place. I think the staff need better training and need more training on aftercare too. Especially what to do if someone comes in with a swollen piercing. My advice would also be to only have a ball piercing on cartilage. I had a flat triangle shape which made it easier for the swollen skin to swallow up the piercing. This is the sort of expertise the piercers should have so they can advise you better."
