Thornbury Kindergarten

Welcome to Thornbury Kindergarten, a beloved community-run establishment located in Thornbury, Australia. As an incorporation run by a committee of dedicated volunteer parents and owned by the Darebin Council, we are deeply rooted in the local community.

At Thornbury Kindergarten, our experienced and nurturing staff create a rich, stimulating, safe, and fun learning environment for children. We offer 15 hours per week of free kinder to three and four-year-olds, following a mixed-age community-learning model. This approach promotes social interaction and allows children to learn from and support one another.

One of the highlights of our program is the Bush Kinder program. Through play and exploration, we encourage children to develop a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. This program teaches early risk self-assessment strategies, fostering an understanding of the impact of their actions on themselves and the world around them.

We believe that learning extends beyond the walls of our kindergarten. That's why we organize regular excursions into the community, such as trips to local parks, nearby schools, and even museums. Our Out & About Kinder program helps children develop meaningful connections to people and places, empowering them to become active contributors to the world.
