About the Business
Welcome to Ross Jones Rockpool, a beloved establishment located at Coogee, Beach Street, 133R in Australia. This iconic institution, known as the Ross Jones Memorial Pool, has been a cherished part of the community since its construction in 1947. Situated next to the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club, at the southern end of Coogee Beach, this pool offers a unique and enchanting experience for all who visit.
One of the distinctive features of Ross Jones Rockpool is its close proximity to the ocean. During high tide and rough seas, waves from Coogee Beach spill over the concrete walls of the baths, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. This natural phenomenon adds an exhilarating touch to your swimming experience, making it a favorite spot for families and children seeking adventure and fun.
What sets Ross Jones Rockpool apart from other swimming facilities is its commitment to maintaining the pristine beauty of the ocean without the use of chemicals. The Randwick City Council, responsible for the pool's upkeep, ensures that no chemicals are used for cleaning or maintenance. Instead, Council staff regularly inspect the pool and employ steam cleaning methods when necessary.
Please note that the cleaning schedule may be subject to change due to tidal and weather conditions, as they can impact the accessibility and cleanliness of the pool. We strive to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors, and our dedicated staff works diligently to keep the water clean and free from algae build-up. However, please be aware that weather conditions and tidal wash may occasionally introduce seaweed and other natural materials into the pool.
In addition to offering a magnificent swimming experience, Ross Jones Rockpool also provides a directory of services and groups to help you stay safe in the water. We prioritize your well-being and want to ensure that you have all the necessary resources to enjoy your time at the pool.
In celebrating Australia's thriving surf culture, we are proud to share that Layne Beachley, a renowned surfer, was recently inducted into the Surfing Walk of Fame at Maroubra Beach Breaks. This serves as a testament to the rich surfing heritage that permeates the region and reinforces the connection between our establishment and the coastal lifestyle that defines Australia.
Lastly, in recognition of the traditional owners of the land, the Randwick City Council acknowledges the Bidjigal and Gadigal Clans, who historically occupied this area of the Sydney Coast. We pay our respects to the Elders, both past and present, and honor the cultural significance of the land on which Ross Jones Rockpool stands.
Come and experience the magic of Ross Jones Rockpool at Coogee Beach. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the ocean, create lasting memories with your loved ones, and discover the true essence of Australia's coastal charm.

"Thrilling swim in this renovated public pool, with the ocean's ultimately victorious waves rising regally from the deep to slap firmly the pool walls that encase the sea water. Not really a lap pool, but make it your own. Fun if a challenging experience, at times when the waves are large, for older kids. Smaller pool for the youngies. Bit of a hang out crowd at times, but benign."
"Built in 1947 this rock pool on the southern end of Coogee beach has war-like aggregate battlements that break the force of the waves. With a view of the whole horseshoe beach, serviced by well-designed change rooms that separate toileting and showering and changing cut into the cliff, it’s an attractive and convenient option if you can get a park. Which incidentally was free for four hours when we—on our first pass—managed to. One wall of the pool is natural cliff face, with cracks crawling with white-clawed crabs of various sizes. The bottom is sandy and rocky, with lots of undulating, soft green seaweeds on the edges. The water is clean, green and aerated with constant wave flushing. Would happily return, just missing an outdoor shower."
"The Ross Jones Rockpool is located on the southern end of Coogee beach, directly under the Lifesavers Club. It makes the perfect backdrop for sunrise photoshoots as the sun rises over the ocean. It’s also very popular for families with young children because they can swim without the big waves of the beach."
"A beautiful Rockpool for a lovely swim in the morning with breathtaking view of the sun rise."
"Such a good rock pool to visit. There are two pools - one for the kids, a deeper one for adults. The deeper one seemed to be a lot colder than the beach... no idea why. Kids had a lot of fun watching the waves break over the rock wall."
