"(3.5 stars) This is the second swimming complex in Sydney named after the legendary Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton and it dwarfs its Woolloomooloo namesake. With seven pools for various purposes and audiences - four outdoors and three indoors- plus a large spa, it’s epic. You can see how it has grown and been added to over many decades, from a simple 1m deep 25m outdoor pool to the very modern indoor pools with water play features, but our preferred swim here was the 50m outdoor Olympic pool. The water temperature was perfect, it’s salt water chlorinated (yay!) making for a buoyant and pleasant water experience. Unfortunately on a hot Sunday there was only one lane of it devoted to recreational swimmers. This particular pool has history too, having had big names like Michael Phelps train in it… but he probably would’ve been appalled by our languid paddling and floating around on a hot Summer’s day. The historical accretion of facilities means there are two entire sets of change rooms to choose from, plus an indoor cafe, with plenty of free parking in the car park or on the street."
