About the Business
Welcome to Sanpomen, a renowned establishment located at 225H Forest Road, Hurstville, Australia. As a point of interest and a restaurant, we take pride in offering a unique dining experience centered around our housemade special noodles for Tsukemen, using whole grains.
At Sanpomen, we believe that the foundation of a great dish lies in the quality of its ingredients. That's why we meticulously select the finest materials, including natural kelp, Niboshi, Bonito, and more, to create our special soy sauce that perfectly complements our flavorful soup.
Speaking of soup, our Tonkotsu broth is a labor of love. We simmer pork bones for hours under high pressure and heat until the broth becomes opaque, rich, and gelatinous. The result is a broth that is both comforting and bursting with flavor.
To accompany our noodles and broth, we offer Chashu made from pork belly stewed for several hours in our homemade soy sauce. The tender and infused Chashu is sure to delight your taste buds with its rich flavor.
Another highlight of our menu is our fish powder, which is carefully blended with several types of seafood, such as sardine and bonito. This unique addition adds depth and complexity to our dishes.
To enhance the richness of our Tonkotsu soup, we also offer MA-YU, a seasoning oil made from burnt garlic and sesame oil. This addition not only adds depth of flavor but also lends a satisfying aroma to our dishes.
Our commitment to quality extends beyond our ingredients. We also offer whole grain noodles, made from grinding the entire wheat kernel into a powder. This process results in a brown-colored whole grain flour that boasts a fragrant flavor from the epidermis and germ, as well as a chewy texture. These noodles are not only delicious but also packed with dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
Whether you're a fan of traditional Japanese cuisine or simply looking for a unique dining experience, Sanpomen is the place to be. Join us at our restaurant in Hurstville, Australia, and indulge in our special noodles, rich dipping sauce, flavorful Chashu, and unforgettable Tonkotsu broth.

"Finally Hurstville has got a place where you can get authentic and delicious Ramen soup. Everything in the surrounding shops that is offered as Ramen soup is far behind the quality of Sanpomen Ramen. The only thing that didn't leave a big impression on me was the atmosphere while enjoying the Ramen soup. Proximity to the exit gates of the station makes one feel like being in a "Railway Station"...very crowded and not an opportunity to fully enjoy the food. I sincerely recommend this place to enjoy the wonderful dishes."
"Great chicken and ramen for a really good price. Quick service, convenient location, friendly staff, and open late. Fun little ordering system too with the order screen built in to the dining bench."
"The ramen was pretty average. The broth that I had that time was watery. Their karage were decent, crispy on the outside and succulent in the inside. It’s a good stop and go ramen ya before/after taking the train. Their service was pretty quick."
"うそつき! つけ麺じゃない Possibly the WORST interpretation of what tsukemen is supposed to be - it’s quite embarrassing! Again and again, I hate it when I come across food retailers pretending to pass off "authentic" Japanese cuisine when theirs don't resemble the slightest! So, I'm here at Sanpomen in Hurstville, and this ramen joint claims they serve authentic Japanese ramen. One whiff of what's in the air and immediately I'm already sceptical! The aroma of bone broth cooked on hours ends, mixed in with kombu, soy, and miso was clearly missing....and I wasn't wrong! I ordered their tsukemen special, claiming that their broth is fish based. But what I received was far from the truth. The broth was drown in anise seed, fennel, cinnamon, cloves, and black peppercorn - a distinct concoction of the five spice powder usually found in traditional Mainland Chinese cuisine. Though nicely scented, I'm already dreading that I'm about to have Chinese cuisine and not Japanese tsukemen! And again, I wasn't wrong! The taste was NOTHING like a tsukemen broth was supposed to taste like! I've had aplenty of tsukemen dipping sauces in the many years I've lived in Japan, and believe me - this does not remotely come close! Yes, it was somewhat yummy for a Chinese dish but that's not what I ordered, let alone came in for! Now, before you dog me out about the various types of broth in different areas of Japan, you'd better school yourself with the fundamental ingredients of a tsukemen dipping sauce. This dipping sauce was unlike anything I've ever tasted, here and abroad! The noodles were also disastrous! Parts of it were raw and frozen, while other parts of it were clumpy, the starch still hanging on the exterior, which only indicates that they’re the cheap inferior version. Any self-respecting ramen chef wouldn't be caught boiling this monstrosity in their ramen stand! But apparently here, frozen ramen noodle is all the rave! The chashu was unbearably shameful! I'm certain the chef has confused simmered/braised pork with “yakibuta”....there is a difference and it's that difference that makes or breaks the meal! This was the latter! And don't get me started about the chef - she literally was just reheating pre-made frozen meat cuts among other things. There was nothing that she did that was chef-ful. Sorry to say but my tsukemen experience here was possibly the WORST ramen experience in a very long time. Everything that was served, except for the drinks, was pitifully woeful. I'm beyond shocked that a restaurant like Sanpomen could even call themselves a ramen-ya, let alone operate as one. A TOTAL INSULT TO THE JAPANESE CUISINE IMHO!!!"
