"I'm a local and come here often so I'm surprised at the negative reviews that have increased between now and 2 months ago...For example this is a sit down restaurant..so showing up right before they close to order food is really rude and I applaud the staff for turning people away. Hospitality staff get treated like trash and it's not fair to give a restaurant 1 star just because you didn't get what you want and arrived not at an appropriate time. Also the staff are super friendly here and they don't exist to give the general entitled public everything they want when they stamp their foot like children. Finally the food here is traditional, so just because the food here is not cooked the same way you do at home does not mean it's not cooked right. I'm also pretty certain that 98% of the general public are not professional chefs...so we need to just calm down and not think we're Gordan Ramsay. So just be a bit more caring to our local restaurants because we dont want Japan City to leave ❤ the locals love you!"

"2022: We waited 30min to get seated when they had empty tables inside. Only when we eventually got seated we realised the empty tables were probably to maintain manageable volumes inside the restaurant. When we were at the front of the queue we saw a sign saying in essence that they were understaffed. It would've been appreciated if a sign about this was closer to the entrance into the restaurant. Food was nice, miso was pretty bland though. Dine here again? Unsure... other nice places in Top Ryde to dine at. 2023: We gave this place another go. The queue was non-existent so got seated straight away. The food had improved too, even their bland miso soup was a bit better. I got the karaage chicken udon and it was pretty good with lots of flavour. The kids have decided they like the kids meals here. Glad we gave this place another go. Dine here again? Yes I think we will."

"I ordered tonkatsu with curry separate and matcha milk. The pork is small portion and some cuts seems like over cooked dried and not tasty. There is no miso soup. I went there at 2:20 pm and less people but still not expected service as they forgot the miso and the portion size is extremely small."

"1 star-location 2 star-service 3 star-premises Great environment and decoration, cleaned and with a lot of Japanese home stuff to buy from. Service OK as any other Japanese restaurant but in regards to the food quiet far to have that WOW factor of a proper Japanese food, country that I visited in 2019 , and even the decoration is pretty close to a local restaurant the dishes are overpriced, is well know that rice is the main ingredient of any Oriental plate but this restaurant dont try to keep the balance and the flavours of a fresh taste, not a place to visit twice."

"Great selection of Japanese bowls, cups, cutlery and accessories. The staff in the shop were friendly and amazing at gift wrapping. The restaurant side on the other hand was very much lacking. Waited over 30min for the food to come to me twice as the wrong order, and eventually my katsudon came but was so over cooked that the meat was hard to eat. Overall dining experience wasn’t great, so while I’ll come back to shop for the cute things in the store, I won’t be dining here again unfortunately."
