"As soon as we stepped in the restaurant we were transported to Mexico!!! We loved everything about it, the architecture, the coziness, the warm welcome from the staff, particularly Ana that looked after us for the night!!! The fact that we were able to practice our spanish..... Everything!!!!!!! The drinks and the food were amazingly presented and they tasted even better!!!!!!!! Everything on the menu is Gluten free, so a must try for all the celiacs out there!!! It was so nice to look at the menu and choose whatever I wanted without worrying about hidden gluten or cross contamination. Thanks to all Maíz staff for the incredible night!!!!"

"They have a different kind of Mexican menu. I think it's more authentic. The pulled pork tostada was delicious also the cocktail special was great. I look forward to returning. On Tue night they had a Tostada Menu with limited selections available, but still delicious. We went on Tue. The staff were very friendly and helpful."

"If you think you’ve had real, authentic Mexican food and you haven’t dined here nor been to Mexico, think again! A fellow foodie introduced me to this venue which I’ll never forget. Their dishes were vibrant, beautiful and packed with so much flavour and heat. I couldn’t help but smile, dance and clap as I tasted everything for the first time. These are the dishes we ordered: • Volcanes De Pulpo • Aguachile Rojo De Pez Espada • Esquites • Totopos • Burrata En Milpa + Toastadas • Sope De Jamaica • Tetela De Huitlacoche • Enmoladas De Pato • Panque De Elote Side note; we almost didn't order dessert because we were so full! The lovely waitress recommended we order the Panque De Elote and I am so glad she did, because this was to die for. Prior to visiting, I was told that this is the best Mexican restaurant in Sydney.. even in Australia. Now that I’ve finally paid a visit, I get it."

"We came here on a spontaneous date night because I'd been wanting to go FOREVER and it did not disappoint! We got the banquet menu for two with an additional dish, dessert and cocktails and everything was absolutely delicious! So delicious that I forgot to take some photographs; oops! Fresh, flavourful and just so pretty; the presentation of each dish was spectacular! I'm a Coeliac and knowing everything ok the menu is gluten free and safe makes this place even more of a delight! Additionally, the service was perfect. Attentive without being overbearing and very adaptable to their individual patrons; my husband and I are chatters and were pleased to enjoy a conversation with our server but I saw a couple who WEREN'T chatty who were checked in on but for the most part left alone. It might not seem a lot, but good service makes a difference. Thank you for a super delicious meal! We'll be back!"

"As a Newtown local I have a ton of food options and I will start this review by saying Maiz is easily in the top 3. Firstly this isn't just your local tex mex. The dishes are well thought out and the flavours are deep and complex but we'll balanced, couple this with great presentation and delicious cocktails it's hard to fault this place. Outside of the food the staff are super friendly and add to the vibe. It's a must try in Newtown."
