About the Business
Welcome to the Northern College of the Arts & Technology - NCAT! Located in Preston, Murray Road, 62, our institution is a renowned establishment, point of interest, and school in Australia.
At NCAT, we offer a specialized education in the arts, trades, and technologies for year 10, VCE, VCAL, and post-secondary students. Our commitment to excellence has been recognized by winning The Age 2022 "Schools that Excel" award.
We take pride in providing a supportive and inclusive environment for our students. Recently, our NCAT Young Women in Trades & Technology Group organized the exciting event 'Bring It On!', inviting young women in Years 9, 10, and 11 to explore various trades and technologies.
Our students are constantly achieving remarkable success in their chosen fields. For instance, Hope, a Year 11 VCE student, has made a name for herself in the Music Industry and has been cast as a principal vocalist in this year's Victorian State School Spectacular.
The Year 12 Theatre Studies class showcased their talent by presenting the captivating performance of 'Love and Information' by Caryl Churchill. This production was a testament to their dedication and creativity.
We believe in the importance of giving back to the community. Our General VCE VM students recently volunteered at FareShare, an experience that they describe as transformative and fulfilling.
In addition, our Year 10 and VCE VM students had the opportunity to participate in our Work Experience and Structured Work Placement Program. This program allows them to gain valuable real-world experience and explore their career interests.
As part of our Visual Arts Immersion VCE VM curriculum, we emphasize the development of creative enterprise skills. Our students learn the business and manufacturing aspects necessary to turn their creative work into successful small businesses.
At NCAT, we are committed to providing a well-rounded education that prepares our students for future success in their chosen fields. We invite you to explore our website and learn more about the exceptional opportunities available at Northern College of the Arts & Technology.

"1/10 school do not recommend. Teachers are racist, they do not support the trade students, and they treat the arts students like treasure. Lastly the teachers are disrespectful towards people with disabilities and certain nationalities. Thank you"
"The BEST school I've ever attended! I first attended NCAT in 2020 as a VET Student for Cert II in Visual Arts and loved it so much, I decided to enroll as a full-time student for 2021 and graduated with a High-School Certificate and Cert III in Visual Arts. In 2022, I completed my year 13 course in Cert IV Design. After attending this school for 3 years, I can proudly say that this school brought back my faith in the education system. As someone who not only missed formative years of schooling due to illness and has a disability, the environment at NCAT made me feel so welcomed and enthusiastic about going to school and wanting to learn, that it puts my Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary school to shame, as all three have never been able to achieve this for me. I learnt so much at NCAT and received support from my teachers, whom I actually felt comfortable approaching to ask for help. I don’t understand why there are so many negative reviews about the lack of disability support here. As from my experience, this simply isn’t true. I felt very supported at NCAT (especially during the peak of the pandemic) and I highly recommend this school to everyone I know. Especially to those who have a disability like myself. The Canteen ladies are also nice and provide good food. The students (while they may seem intimidating with their alternative fashion and loud nature, are passionate about their interests and have plenty of school spirit."
"NCAT is not a supportive school when it comes to people with disabilities. Sure there might be a one or two teachers that do have empathy, but overall students with disability are not welcomed at the school. The teachers make no effort to help them in their time of need and often treat them as outcasts. The only reason why disabled students are even allowed to enroll at NCAT is because the staff want to look progressive. Furthermore the principal is not a nice person. She doesn't care about her students. She only sees them as cash cows. Her encouraging nature is all a lie. Don't fall for her facade like so many have done."
"Terrible school, especially when it comes to special needs students. There is an overwhelming atmosphere of ableism here. The teachers always try to make them feel like they don't belong there and label them the bad guy if they complain. The worst offenders are the music and art departments. They practically make it their duty to give anyone with a disability a hard time. They may look progressive on the outside, but are incredibly intolerant and judgemental on the inside."
"I went to this school for VCE and as much as it wasn't the most pleasant experience, the school itself is up and coming! the principal is passionate about the school she is creating and is sweet and kind to talk to, the teachers (with a few exceptions) are amazing and very approachable which made my studies a lot easier. I saw another review talking about the tack of disability support. personally I wasn't aware of a learning disability I have struggled with all through my schooling until my NCAT English teacher picked it up. from there she helped me get support and special consideration on my end of year exams. for the principal, she has always been super encouraging and even helped me get into VCA. the students that currently go to this school don't reflect how good the facilities and the teaching are yet. but when they do I think NCAT will be up there with VCASS and PSA for performing arts high schools."
