About St Albans Courthouse & Homestead
Welcome to St Albans Courthouse & Homestead, a unique and historic establishment located in the picturesque town of St Albans, Australia. Situated on Upper MacDonald Road, this former courthouse, built in the 1890s by convict settlers, has been beautifully converted into self-contained holiday accommodation.
Step inside and you'll be transported back in time while enjoying all the modern comforts of today. The old holding cells, once used to confine prisoners, have been transformed into luxurious bathrooms complete with underfloor heating. The original exercise yard now houses a foosball table, dart board, and a wood burner, perfect for cozying up on chilly evenings.
Throughout the building, you'll find fires that create a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it the ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring the stunning valley. For added comfort, newly installed air conditioning is available in the formal living and dining rooms.
The fully equipped country kitchen boasts a new 90cm oven, perfect for those who love to cook, and there's even a gas BBQ outside for al fresco dining.
St. Albans itself is a truly majestic location, offering a range of adventures for the more adventurous guests. Explore the surrounding bushland on fantastic walking trails, take a refreshing dip in the nearby river, or embark on a scenic bike ride. For those seeking a more relaxed visit, a gentle country stroll followed by a leisurely lunch at the Settlers Inn, the town's only pub, is highly recommended. Kate and Rob, the friendly owners, are always on hand to help you find the perfect bush walk for your group.
The Courthouse features four comfortable double rooms, including three queen beds and two single beds. Luxurious linen and towels are provided for your convenience.
Check-in is typically at 2pm, and check-out is at 10am, but we are happy to accommodate special requests, so please let us know at the time of booking.
Please note that there is no mobile phone reception in St. Albans, offering you the perfect opportunity to truly escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. However, Telstra Air is available in town, just 100m away, so you can stay connected if needed (please download the app prior to your arrival).
As there are no supermarkets in St. Albans, we recommend bringing your own lunch and dinner items. Alternatively, you can dine locally at the Settlers Arms Inn, where you'll find delicious meals to satisfy your appetite.

"Amazing location and great accommodation. Incredible views down to the river, where families can picnic on the freshwater sands and have a relaxing swim. Such an incredible getaway - I wish we could have spent longer there! The hosts are super easygoing and made our stay a breeze and even more relaxing than we expected!"
"We stayed at the homestead with friends over the new years. What an amazing place to get away from it all! The accommodation was amazing and the extra space and ensuites to all rooms was an added bonus. The swimming pool was quite large and the kids certainly enjoyed it. The hosts are amazing too. I forgot some valuables while checking out and Kate sent them via express post!! Will definitely book again."
"Amazing historic stay in a stunning location with great views over the River. Great hosts in Rob and Kate and the Courthouse has been lovingly restored with the old cells now bathrooms. The Settlers Arms is a must visit for dinner and drinks and only a 5 minute walk. Thanks for a great stay. We will be back soon!"
"What a fabulous weekend, not far from Sydney to drive and such a special place. The courthouse fits a couple of families - great facilities to cook up a BBQ. The pool is amazing and refreshing - couldn't get the kids out of it! The village and surrounding area is great for bush walks, tennis and fun on the river beach. There's even a rope swing not far out of the village. Magical getaway to suit all the family (including our dog!) - we can't wait for our next visit. Thank Rob & Kate and family"
