"I’ve been putting it on the long finger for years… getting hearing aids, that is, but in February ’22, I bit the bullet and made an appointment with Jenevieve at Midland Hearing Care. In my naivety, I thought a one hour consultation and return after a week to pick up the hearing aids would suffice. Boy, how wrong can a person be! With hearing aids, I quickly learned, one size doesn’t work for all. Everyone is different and hearing deterioration is as unique as the individual. At the end of the consultation - which consisted of a battery of tests - Jenevieve had a fair idea of my deafness level. And this is where the Midland Hearing patient care came into play. Instead of telling me to come back in a week for my hearing aids, I was given a pair to try at home. “See how you get on for two weeks,” Jenevieve said, “then we’ll decide if this particular brand works for you or not.” Over the two weeks, I kept a basic daily diary noting various before and after scenarios. I mailed that to Jenevieve before my second appointment, and she decided to try a different technology, for another two weeks! I mean, where else would you get that level of precision? As it happened the second pair of “trainers” didn’t work as well for me, (because everyone is different and hearing deterioration is as unique as the individual) so we reverted back to the original technology, but not before the hearing aids were fine-tuned to the nth degree, to suit me. What I thought would take a week took nearly two months before Jenevieve, ably assisted by Claire, declared themselves satisfied. During that time, the attention to detail I received was truly outstanding. No question was too silly. I never felt rushed, or that I was just a number. Nor was I pushed into purchasing specific high-end products. I walked into Midland Hearing Care in late February ’22, not really understanding a word Jenevieve was saying through her Covid mask. (Sorry, Jenevieve). I walked out on April 7th with hearing aids I could afford and a bagful of back-up “stuff” that allows for any possible emergency. Hearing technology is expensive. But included in the price are the countless (ongoing) years of learning, training and knowledge that Jenevieve has acquired, in order to qualify as a clinical audiologist. I expect and want that level of understanding, wisdom and patient-focused care when it comes to my health. To me, that’s priceless."
