About Belltable
Belltable is a unique and iconic institution nestled in the heart of Limerick city, located on the bustling O'Connell Street at number 69. Operating as an establishment, movie theatre and point of interest, Belltable has established itself as a cultural hub in the community, providing an array of arts and entertainment experiences that are second to none.
The institution has a rich history, having undergone a magnificent transformation to become the beloved cultural hotspot it is today. Originally built in 1825 as the Royal George Hotel, it was later turned into a cinema that was officially opened by Jim Kemmy in 1981. After several years of operation, it was closed down, and the building lay vacant for a while, until it was purchased by City Council in 2001. Following an extensive renovation and extension, Belltable reopened its doors in 2016, much to the delight of the Limerick community.
As a movie theatre, Belltable boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a high-tech cinema with comfortable seating and top-of-the-range sound systems that deliver an immersive cinematic experience. The theatre screens an array of films, from international blockbusters to independent and art-house movies and features programmes of curated film seasons.
Aside from its impressive cinema capabilities, Belltable doubles as a vibrant community space, with its various rooms available for hire all year round. The building comprises several function rooms, each with its distinct atmosphere and capacity, making it the perfect space for meetings, seminars, conferences, and social events.
As a point of interest, the institution has numerous fascinating exhibitions throughout the year that showcase emerging artists and celebrates various art disciplines. The on-site café offers a variety of options for visitors to grab a drink or a bite to eat before or after enjoying the latest screenings or exhibitions on show.
Belltable is an outstanding institution that offers an extensive range of arts and entertainment experiences that are both accessible and enjoyable. Whether you fancy a night out at the cinema, a space to host your next event, or to explore various art exhibitions on offer, Belltable is the place to be. It has become the beating heart of Limerick's entertainment scene and continues to draw in visitors from far and wide for a glimpse into its rich culture and heritage.
