"Use to rate this place, for a decent cheap stay for a night in the city. Facilities are good, adequate. Toilets are damp, maybe bring your own towel if you're fussy. Recently booked through a 3rd party, and when we arrived there was no availability, which was a huge let down... Within walking distance to train station, and city centre approx 15 mins walk. Not be disregarded, depending on your requirements!!"
"Lots of negative reviews on here. I was in room 4 with 3 bunks (sleeps 6) modern tough metal bunks with metal cage under bunk for secure storage. Shared bathroom with shower. I had 1 night to kill Before flying back to London so got train from Midleton to Kent Station. Hostel is 5 minutes from station. You get electronic key to come and go as you please. Excellent burger cafe ‘Lab 182’ nearby. Can’t complain for €25. Does exactly what it says on the tin."
"Myself and 2 friends booked this place for one night this past weekend. Not only did our room not lock (second floor, room 6), but the wind had been left open all day during Storm Jorge, leaving the room FREEZING cold and the bed, floor, and wall wet from the rain. Additionally, the heater in the room did not function whatsoever and the staff did nothing to fix the situation because "it should be working fine" even though it clearly was not working at all. The manager did not even make an effort to come up to the room to see if it could be fixed. We were also denied extra blankets to deal with the cold room and were instead given 3 thin, ratty towels as makeshift blankets. We packed our bags and left the same night we checked in-- don't waste your time staying here."
"I can't recommend staying in this hostel. As an experienced and well travelled backpacker I can say this place does not meet the basic requirements for hygiene and safety. I booked a bed in a female dorm for safety, but the door-lock was broken, leaving the door open 24/7. Our toilet did not work so 6 people were forced to use the only other one available which was communal and not clean. Showers did not work in the whole building and at 8.30 in the morning nobody from the staff was at the reception desk, nor picked up the phone or returned my phone calls. The only staff member I met in person during my check-in was polite in our interactions, but not helpful at all when needed. At arrival, the staff member handed me the (useless) keys of my dorm and didn't bother showing me around or at least telling me which bed I was supposed to use. I shared the room with a few drunk people who were noisy and disrespectful, but nobody was at reception at night in case the situation escalated. Major safety issue! If you can avoid, please do."
"We arrived at 3pm. Check in is 2-8pm per the website and on the door of the hostel. We could not get in and knocked and waited. Once we got in a very strange man was there and told us check in was at 6.. 3 hours away. I asked did he work there and he said no. Another woman came in the lobby and she said you wait until 6 she also said she did not work there. We tried calling the number on the office door which was shut and Iocked. Around 30 minutes later a man arrived who didn’t speak much English and had a key for the office but didn’t know how to check us in. Around 30 more minutes another lady comes running in with kids and she gets on the computer. All this time we have another person in our car as we had no where to park. The website states there is parking but there is NOT. They were scrambling and at this point it was all extremely uncomfortable and we did not feel secure staying here. We waiting over an hour and a half to get assistance after a 10 hour flight. And the staff members were extremely unorganized and whoever they had staying at the hostel that appeared to work there but did not was very odd and unwelcoming. I would not try to book this place we had to find another and wasted so much time."
