"The hotel was four star, room, reception, location etc but dining was disappointing due to the lack of staff on the floor and in kitchen. The staff serving were under pressure and kitchen staff were serving up cold or precooked food in some cases. Management could have been on hand to help out but didn't seem to be around at busy times, staff on the floor we're very nice under such pressure. Reception staff very helpful at all times Room lovely"
"Three friends and I spent 2 nights at the Great Southern Hotel. Our experience was excellent from the moment we checked in at reception to our reluctant departure. The staff were so friendly, professional and attentive. The food was scrumptious.......dinners and breakfast. All 4 of us loved our stay, and we are looking forward to a return visit soon. Location is excellent."
"Traditional hospitality at its best - from the welcome at the door with the big warm fireplace and the piano music in the lobby. The afternoon tea is sumptuous and breakfast delicious. Lovely room with a great big bed. Bathroom more than 5 star! Unbeatable friendly service. The putting set is a lovely fun addition. If you ever visit Killarney this is the place to stay."
"This is really about Browne's bar, which is located inside the hotel (it doesn't seem to have its own listing). We had a late lunch here today. Carpet was a mess - looked like it hadn't been vacuumed since yesterday- but more importantly, food was average ... and that's been generous. My main course was completely overcooked and my wife's dish arrived without potatoes ... just carrots. Work that one out. Staff, while courteous, were very slow. After being given the bill, I waited 12 minutes before asking the bar manager if someone would take my money. This was meant to be a nice, late afternoon Christmas lunch. It was 80€ (including tip) that I will never get back. (While one glass of wine was missing from our bill, we weren't charged for it after bringing it to the attention of the waiter.) I won't be returning anytime soon. (The photo shows the floor under my chair.)"
"This beautiful hotel has become one of my go-to places when visiting Killarney. Whether for lunch, early dining or evening live entertainment, the decor, family friendly welcome and atmosphere set the scene for a time out break in a very relaxing classically enduring setting that takes you back to a time when the pace of life was slower allowing more time to take in and appreciate the timeless environment. The food has been great quality with the key being a non extensive menu of consistently well presented and tasteful gastronomic dishes. The lounge atmosphere sets the pace of relaxation while the tireless multitasking staff fulfill orders and requests with swift service and capacity for the most discerning customers in mind. Families with children are felt welcome and well accommodated for by the provision of a supervised playroom showing movies for kids and with arts and crafts and play. Follow the hotel lobby to the right and you'll find Browne's bar, serving a great selection of renowned whiskies and local beer. I was fortunate to experience live entertainment at Browne's where even kids danced, much to the amusement of patrons. The grounds are beautifully kept to maintain its timeless Georgian air with weddings a frequent testimony to capture that special day. And what would accompany such a elegant establishment but a fine health spa. Looking forward to my next recharge."
