"It’s a scam! The hotel no longer exists! DO NOT BOOK! It was taken over in June by the pub next door and it’s not open. Booked in January for November. Paid on November first to show up and the hotel wasn’t there and the so called “owner” was trying to tell me it’s been renamed and again that hotel didn’t exist! Had to find somewhere else to stay!"
"woke up covered in weird lumps that looked like bug bites. staff were rude. pub directly below was very loud until 3am and you were still expected to leave at 10am"
"Not a good place to stop Music goes on until 1.30 am and is too loud, not clean at all we found some food and boxes in a drawer under the bed, and the duvet had stains on it, also a very strange odour that smells like cabbage on the second landing and is called the Calton, not olive and ginger!!"
"Disgusting, felt unsafe as soon as walking in we were given a slip of paper and a code and sent on our way too try am find the room through pub underneath the rooms where the music was ridiculously loud until 2am, the room was absolutely VILE! There was a broken spare radiator lent up against the actual non-working one on the wall. The fridge in there was pointless and seemed too be a replacement of a bedside table. The bed itself was falling too bits, the headboard was barely attached, the plug socket was a complete health and safety hazard as it was hanging out off the wall with wires exposed, the bathroom light was hanging off, the wardrobe was falling too bits, there was a hole in the wall, a hole in the glass on the window, the window wouldn’t lock, the shower curtain pole was hanging on by a thread, the toilet seat was falling off. It smelt awful. I’ve never stayed in such a hovel in my life. It’s never been safe at all to stay in i cannot for the life off me understand how this place is aloud too be kept open."
"This is not called Olive and Ginger , I think because Carlton Hotel gives a different emphasis on the type of clientele they are attracting. We came a long way based on the details provided on Booking.com and the lady we spoke to on the phone was most accommodating. We came from Wales to Hull, not knowing the area and on a limited budget and leaving our daughter who was due to start work as a nurse on the 5/07. The room was difficult to find, there were 18 rooms above a pub over 2 floors, and she had the room as far away as you can get from the stairs. The room was not what I would consider clean, it smelt musty and slightly rotten, and there was what looked like a blood stains on the headboard. Each door was supposed to have a yale lock and a code lock except when we got to the door,it wasn't locked at all. It could be pushed open. That is when you realise the code lock was for show and the locking mechanism itself was missing. There were no fire extinguishers/fire safety/smoke alarms/health and safety considerations at all. This was a place with long term residents and the overwhelming feeling was that this was not a safe place to stay in. It was not safe for children at all and even though it had an NHS link on the site, I would call this into question."
