"Before arrival i was given instructions to text a telephone number with my details so someone could meet me at the door and check me in. Arrived at the property to check in and there were no staff at all anywhere. Luckily another customer was coming out of the door and let me inside. I managed to find a young man left in charge, who did not know what he was doing and was clearly drunk. I asked him about getting a parking permit for my car but he could not help me, I then asked what was I supposed to do about parking then and he just shrugged his shoulders. He stated that Jon normally sorts that out but is not in. I tried calling Jon (the owner) but phone is off and does not reply to texts. Entry was gained into my room which was number 1. The room smelt of cigarettes and clearly had dirty bed sheets and duvet. The bathroom room was filthy and draws were filled with items such as screws and other DIY stuff. Do not stay at the place, the rooms are awful and the owner is clearly incompetent. Oh and iv recently seen he is due in crown court for falsifying reviews and star ratings. Don't waste your money here."
"This place is just a passive income stream for some clever C called John. John has a massive chip on his shoulder about young people and people who work in IT (I’m not even young). I’m guessing John isn’t quite such a clever C when you’re stood in front of him (typical coward, slum landlord) but he’s happy to dish it out by text. Advertises free WiFi (there is none), advertises free parking (there’s no car park). Has the brass neck to ask how much you’ve paid when you ask what the WiFi password is. Avoid this hole at all costs. The £72 I paid would furnish the entire room twice over, including the bed with nails sticking out of the footboard, cheap thin bedding and basic, budget mattress. Awful."
"Do not trust this man! You only have to look at his response to reviews to understand why! Cancelled my booking on the morning of our stay by text. Wouldn’t answer the phone to discuss. We had booked for my Aunt’s 60th birthday and unable to book anywhere else due to such short notice. Maybe a blessing in disguise after reading these reviews. Paid in advance and no mention of a refund. Disgusting customer service!!!"
"Do NOT stay here. I have nothing positive to say about this place despite paying £53. It is not with £5!! The owner thinks that paying only £53 makes it okay to not answer his phone on arrival and because I complained about this, he kept my kids and I in the 'reception' area for 15 minutes and then would only talk to my husband. He clearly has issues with women. The room is very very basic. The glass in the windows have holes in them and the bedding is extremely thin. The heater does not work properly either. There is no care taken with this guest house. No pride in running this business. What a shame because this could be a really nice place overlooking the Minster. This really is not worth one star! Shocking."
"Basic. A few broken bits and pieces. Threadbare grey towels. Shower tray doesn't drain well so you have to paddle in the shower. Open bowl of coffee has gone hard and shiny! Toilet seat broken. Wonky chair. No double glazing so quite a loud noise from traffic immediately outside my window. Fire alarm has gone off twice. Once at 11pm and again at 8pm. All guests stood outside got chatting and all agreed this was the worst place they'd ever stayed! PLUS side: Helpful reception (via text!) Broken toilet seat was fixed within 24 hours...... Cheap, Full sized Fridge in the room. Close to town centre. Free Wi-Fi. Has a 'Garden' area of sorts."
