Reviews of The Old Hall Hotel
"A lovely classical feel hotel. Eleanor on reception was particularly helpful, courteous & professional, all staff are so friendly. Really recommend the Mary Bower room, a delightful stay. An A1 location, it's genuinely a historic building, if its revamped I do hope they'll not mess, destroy the historical vibe & authenticity! that'd ruin everything that makes it so special & unique... Already looking forward to our future return. Tony & Debbie."
"Stayed here several times in the past but this visit is the first time since the pandemic and it was disappointing The hotel feels unloved and in desperate need of a sympathetic refurb Our room had lights out in the bathroom water that was far too hot from the washbasin hot tap and no warning on the wall ,a TV remote that did not switch the small TV on or off Windows that are so dirty outside you can hardly see through them and the outlooks on to a small yard with a depressing view of crumbling window frames opposite The complimentary toiletries that are the right height for a shower but no use if you like a bath the shower gel bottle does not work and you can't get it off the wall. Unable to read in bed as the lights are in the wrong place and dim Breakfast the first morning was so overcooked even the waitress commented on it the other two mornings were better Such a shame as the staff are nice and friendly"
"My friend and I didn't think having to order dinner for our 4 night stay on the day of arrival before you could have your room key was right and it didn't work. The staff was all friendly and helpful, our room was spotless it was just the service for dinner wasn't very good they didn't have a clue who was having what so poor staff was asking table by table if you had ordered this starter or main course."
"Spent a night here because of watching a gig at the opera House. A very old and historic building, large and comfortable room we stayed in, and the included breakfast was nice. Ideal central location for Buxton and a stones throw from the opera House. Bad points-room wasn't the cleanest I've stayed in, especially the bathroom, decor and carpets very worn in parts."
"Old hall hotel is tired and drab and needs a complete revamp. New owners have concentrated on their new hotel round the corner. Reasonably clean. Breakfast average, but why were all the plates stone cold and not put on a hot plate to warm ? Menu for evening meal was extortionate. £22 for a meat pie ? We had booked a meal on our first night, but soon cancelled on seeing the price list ! Nicely situated overlooking pavilion gardens and near shops, but won’t stay there again. Can do do much better ."
