Reviews of Bartley Lodge Hotel
"On arrival high hopes but walked into a sauna! Our room was in need of good cleani and a renovation. The whole hotel was in need of renovating and attention to detail. .The bed for our 4 year old was a sofa bed where you could feel all the springs underneath. This was rectified however . The cleaning staff are basically not cleaning properly. The bedding on my first bedroom was not even clean ! Everything looked stained and unloved. no attention to detail throughout the hotel. Lovely staff trying to keep it all together. Some staff do need training however like the receptionist and a member of the bar staff . Food was average, bland , risotto that looked like wall paper paste . The buffet was disappointing. Food you may throw together at home trying to use up left overs from the fridge . Why you are advertising Heinz tomato soup on the children’s menu . This is not 4 star standard. Dogs allowed in a formal restaurant. However after many complaints guests with dogs were moved to the conservatory. The quiz night felt like we had to sit and do our homework whilst having dinner. Wouldn’t it have been more fun to have a quiz master and get all the guests interacting? It’s a catch 22. No investment into this hotel ,therefore you will continue to receive reviews like this, and previous ones. such a shame."
"A lovely location and decent value stay. However service was a little disorganised missing orders, forgotten wine glasses, the room was fairly basic and shower way too hot even on lowest setting. Food is very good and well made. Staff were very polite and accommodating."
"Perfect for our New Forest family break during Christmas and New Year. Despite reservations after reading reviews regarding the hotel being run down we were pleasantly surprised. Our bedroom/bathroom were lovely and all the communal parts of the hotel were cosy and full of rustic charm. Breakfast was great and the service too. Our two boys also loved the pool. Recommend."
"A real shame that our Xmas celebration weekend away with friends to this hotel, in a lovely location, was spoilt by inadequate staffing levels and evidently insufficient staff training. The staff seemed to try their best but from the cheese resembling rubber at dinner on our 1st night, to the erroneous cancellation of our Christmas Dinner (we can only assume by an under trained staff member) on our 2nd night, it was clear that they were dealing with far too many visitors. We can make allowances for needing to cater for large parties at this time of year but running out of drinks and deserts is really not acceptable when our stay, for 6 people only, was pre-booked and paid for months ahead. We also understand the challenges for the industry at this current time, and post Covid, but the way to recovery is surely not to over charge and under resource?!!! I, sadly, would not return or recommend a stay at Bartley Lodge as it is at the moment."
"The hotel location was great for visiting Lyndhurst/Lymington and Beaulieu areas. We could not fault the staff, very friendly and attentive, especially the ladies who served breakfast and dinner. The food was very nicely presented and plenty of options breakfast wise. The evening menu did not vary and after three nights we were struggling. We weren't alone in this, another guest had the same opinion. Even a special each night would help. We had booked a deluxe room and unfortunately it did not meet our expectations. There were handles missing from furniture, the cushions were all thread bare as if chewed on the corners, the bed was two singles attached and the mattresses were rather sunken. The wardrobe was short in height so I was pleased I'd brought my own hangers for dresses which I hung on the back of the door. Having stayed in deluxe accommodation previously the room was tired and little extras like shampoo etc weren't replenished and the bed remade so sheets were tucked in. Staff wise 5 star but could do with an eagle eye going round replacing missing lampshades from public areas, removing cobwebs, cleaning the orangery floor. The little details we visitors do notice!!"
