"A chalet-style pub on the south side of the A35, some way east of Ashurst village. The rustic-style interior is split into two by a large brick double-sided fireplace, with a large lounge bar to the right and a raised stone floored eating area to the left that has clearly seen better days. Although on thr Cask Marque Ale Trail the front of house knew little of it. The certificate was nowhere to be found and the outgoing manager, when finally called, had heard something but didn't know or seemed to care. The only available was IPA was mediocre at best"
"Have given 2 stars on the assumption that it still sells acceptable beer! However, we did not stay to find out, as 4 of us had come for lunch, only to be told that they are no longer serving food! Very disappointed, as this pub used to have a decent reputation. Presumably another casualty of the cost of living and fuel crisis - such a shame!"
"Great place to chill and enjoy a drink. Great live music too...Good band called Anthology on the night we went playing some great songs. Definitely worth a visit."
"Called in for weekday lunch. Good pub menu. Good prices too. Nice staff. Was not too busy when I was there, but can get busy weekends especially Summertime and Sundays for roasts."
"We called in today in search of a nice meal and found it at this very welcoming pub. The outside was well lit and decorated and is obviously well cared for. We had the choice of almost any of the tables in the restaurant area with only a couple of the other tables occupied. This is a great pity because if we all continue to avoid such lovely places they may not be available in the future. After signing in on a form near the entrance we went to the bar. We received a friendly and warm welcome and after ordering drinks at the bar they were delivered to our table. The menu is rather limited but there was enough of a choice for us. I chose the forest burger with chips and salad and my wife had fish and chips. Both were served quickly and were perfectly cooked. My burger was obviously home made and delicious and the salad had a good variety of fresh ingredients. The fish was a little thin and seemed to have been once frozen rather than being fresh and was a little disappointing but the batter was tasty and everything else about the meal was perfect. Although we did not have any of our grand dogs with us the place was very dog friendly and this lead to several interesting conversations all at a safe social distance. If you are passing pop in this is a pub we cannot afford to lose."
