About National Trust - Horsey Windpump
Welcome to the National Trust's Horsey Windpump, a magnificent example of pioneering engineering from the industrial revolution, located in the town of Great Yarmouth in the United Kingdom. As an establishment, point of interest, and tourist attraction, the Horsey Windpump has been an iconic fixture of the Norfolk landscape for over three centuries since it was first built in the late 18th century.
Set against the idyllic backdrop of the Norfolk Broads, Horsey Windpump is a testament to the ingenuity of our ancestors, reflecting the pioneering spirit of the industrial revolution. The Windpump was originally constructed to harness the power of the wind to drain the surrounding marshland, allowing the land to be used for agriculture and grazing. A remarkable feat of engineering, the Windpump stands at over 50 feet tall and is a true relic of the past.
Today, the National Trust is proud to maintain this historical landmark, welcoming visitors to explore the site and learn about the unique role that the Windpump played in the history of industrial innovation. Visitors can climb to the top of the structure and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, or explore the various exhibits and displays located throughout the site.
The Horsey Windpump is a must-see destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply experiencing the beauty of the natural world. From family day trips to educational school groups, we welcome all visitors to come and discover the fascinating story of this majestic industrial wonder. So why not plan your visit today and see the Horsey Windpump for yourself. We can't wait to show you around!

Reviews of National Trust - Horsey Windpump
"We got there after the cafe was closed but we managed to catch a glimpse of the special beauty of this place. The peaceful lookout over the broads was a great place for bird watchers and photographers alike. Our visit was short and sweet and would like to come back in the future to explore."
"A very nice National Trust site, the Windpump is lovely but be warned the steps are quite steep so be careful. You cant go to the very top at present but the views from the levels that are open are worth it. There are some nice walks in the surrounding grounds with Bees and Dragonflies aplenty to compliment the surroundings Of Horsey Mere Lake. I shouldn't forget the cafe with a nice selection of snacks and ice cream."
"Not much going on here but quite scenic and a little beauty, I like the sound of the wildlife boat trip, some lovely plants and wildlife around and there were pretty places to sit. Coffee shop too but was busy so we didn't bother, can also go into the windmill for an extra cost."
"We walked to the mill from Waxham beach, initially along the coastal path and then through the fields by footpath, passing Horsey church. Finally the mill emerged, seeming to float on a sea of green reeds. Despite a rising wind, a beautiful blue, cloud dappled sky provided the backdrop to our visit to this historical setting. The view of the Broads and the boats, from the top of the mill, was accompanied by the sky diving swallows as they nested in the cap of the mill. We had chicken salad sandwiches from the Trust cafe that were great too!..."
"I came here to take pictures of the mills and the wildlife. You can take a nice walk up to Brograve mill which took me about an hour and half to get there and back . (There's a map in the car park, of the routes) Scenery is beautiful, was a peaceful walk. You have to pay for parking, I paid £3 for 2 hours. Ticket machine is cash only or there is a website you can pay on your phone ."
