Reviews of 12th Lock Boutique Hotel & Cafe Bistro
"Arrived at 5.30 in icy conditions to be told no restaurant or bar opened. Has been closed a few months but still on booking sites as open.Vending machine was empty also.If we had known we would not have booked. Stayed here a few times before and was great but room was grubby and bathroom the same this time. Would not recommend this hotel unless in improves its standards."
"Google maps asked me to rate this place as I was walking past it yesterday. I wasnt in it yesterday, but a few years back, the staff let us buy 13 drinks and crisps and peanuts. We had 6 adults, the rest kids. We didnt even manage to get a seat and we were kicked out as no kids allowed from that time onwards. It was earlier than the laws in Ireland. The refused us a refund of our untouched purchase too. Very low. Swore Id never set foot in the place again."
"Room was reasonably priced when I stayed at the end of august , however the bar and restaurant was closed and is closed for the foreseeable future according to the staff who were nice and polite ….. the price of a room has more than doubled since the end of august and is definitely not worth it with there being no bar or restaurant available"
"Not to be recommended. We booked because of the promise of a tapas restaurant. That was closed indefinitely. Also no breakfast available. The rooms are in the basement with small windows 6 yards from the train line running nearly all night (at speed!). Rooms are unaired (probably difficult to ventilate in any case) and the smell of the musty carpet is in serious competition with the canal smell. Don't expect to get much sleep here. Also seriously overpriced."
"il start with the positive. the location of the hotel is really nice but that's the only positive thing about this "Hotel". when first arrived the place looked nice. The room was ok and bed was comfortable but the room wasn't very clean. The bedside lockers and tables all were dirty and a layer of dust on everything. the towels had hairs on them and the fittings in the bathroom were unfinished with holes around the mirror and towel rails and wires hanging above the mirror where a light should be. The view from the room window was a big wall and staff walking right past the window. We were really surprised by all this as the website says newly renovated. The hotel its self looks very worn and out dated in parts. the staff were nice but all came across as new and didn't know what they were doing. We went for dinner and had to ask for order to be taken while we watched people who came in after us being served first. The food was terrible neither my partner or I finished the meal, it was obvious that the lowest quality ingredients are being used and all the food was bland and not seasoned at all and the chips were skinny frozen chips. There were no condiments on the table and at no point did any staff ask if we wanted any, how our food was or if we needed anything else. very poor service all around. The website also states breakfast served from 7.30am but when we asked we were informed that they don't do breakfast. Check out was at 12 with no option for last check out. I wouldn't advise staying here."
