"There's an old saying that ‘a Labrador is born half trained and a Spaniel dies half trained’. For us, this is so true. Morgan has been ‘trained’ (on a positive reward basis) to some degree or other every day of his life and yet we still struggle with lead walking. In short, he pulls like a train. He is very strong Sprocker Spaniel and has managed to take me off my feet on several occasions. Last time Morgan I took Morgan to be groomed at Bone Idol on St James Street, Brighton, I chatted to manager, Ben, (who studied behaviour before he became a groomer) about the problems I was having with Morgan and lead walking. Ben suggested I tried the Bone Idol head collar as a training aid for loose lead walking. I’d tried various brands of well-known head collars in the past, but have always discontinued use, being unhappy with the way they left marks on the face and ride up into the dog’s eyes. My most important consideration was that any new head collar had to be comfortable and would be a safe and effective tool for helping Morgan and I learn together. Ben showed me the Bone Idol head collar and was happy for Morgan to try on various sizes to ensure the best fit. What’s different about this one is that this head collar works from behind so it doesn’t rise up the face like other head collars we’ve tried. The first part of this video shows us doing the ‘stop and look’ method of lead training which is what we practice on every walk. As soon as Morgan’s lead starts to tighten or he pulls, I stop. Once he has returned to the heel position and looked at me, we start walking again. I say ‘yes’ when he’s getting it right and nothing else at any other time. (He also gets treats for getting it right). The second part of the video shows how Morgan would walk on the lead without intervention. He pulls like a train and lunges whenever his fancy takes him. Spaniels!!!!! The final parts show how easy it is to pop on the new head collar and how beautifully he walks with it on. (Please note we have previously done training to ensure that he is comfortable and relaxed having a head collar fitted). A head collar alone is not a quick fix or a substitute for continued training but for us, as a training aid, our new head collar is proving invaluable. It’s made with soft, padded webbing so that it doesn’t rub the fur and it’s extremely durable. We’ve taken it everywhere, from muddy fields to the beach, and it comes up great when it’s washed. (The head collar is machine washable at 30 degrees)."
"Unfortunately I will not be coming back there again as the price is too high and the services were unsatisfactory. Had our dog (Pomeranian) groomed there. Initially after recovering my dog we thought it wasn't too bad but noticed her hair was still quite long but didn't think much of it. Only about a week later after looking at her again we could barely tell she had been groomed (a picture attached). We showed them an outline cut we would like to have done to her but that definitely wasn't the result. I don't know if they were afraid to cut her properly worrying they will take too much off or what, but I definitely wouldn't recommend a Pom to be groomed there, at least from my experience."
"What a lovely friendly place for your Pooch. Lola, our nervous rescue loved being pampered and came out fragrant and shiny."
"I can’t thank Bone Idol enough we visited a few years ago while on holiday and purchased a lead and collar set for my American spaniel Arnie. The set was beautiful and amazing quality still looked brand new after three years. Unfortunately we lost the lead to the set recently. We phoned the shop and Ben was amazing help!. The lead was no longer in stock however we were able to send over photos and have one made to match the original set! We can’t thank you enough, it may seem silly to some but it meant a lot to us as it was the set he’d had since he was a puppy! The collar to his sisters delight also fit so Nelly now matches her big brother Arnie! Thank you again!"
