Reviews of Beaumont Hospital
"Went in to a&e at 8am with suspected stress fracture, was out the door by 1pm. The registered nurse practitioner that dealt with my case was one of the most competent and informative healthcare professionals I've come across. From physical exam to prescription, she explained everything perfectly."
"My 88year old mother is in a and e at the moment and has no pillow to lie on its was the same when she was in away back in 2018 what kind of hospital would have a old woman lying with no pillows behind her head what a disgrace of a situation surly they can purchase some more my cat has better time lie on.to me the hospital is like a third world hospital"
"Something needs to change.... 15hrs wait in September to be seen and having to deal with rude reception staff on arrival in the midst of an attack and the overnight triage nurse who had zero empathy. I felt like I was in a place where everyone hated their jobs and couldn't care less. The triage nurse that night was just careless. Zero interest in the symptoms and absence of humane treatment when taking blood sample. I was left with a bruise for a week. The rest of the doctors/nurses were doing their best, I could tell. But they do not hold up their end of the deal when say they will refer you to see a specialist. I was there overnight sitting in a plastic chair drilled to the floor feeling just desperate and alone. The system is not working. I did not feel like I was in capable hands."
"The facilities are in desperate need of an overhaul. They were FILTHY. Body fluid and stains on every floor, bathroom, shower, and wall. Around my bed were used masks, bloody plasters, and the goo from suction machines. I was transferred at night and arrived around 1:00 am, I truly thought I was being sold for body parts, I was terrified. It was like out of a horror movie. Patients calling out, begging for help as the nurses played on their phone. A young man took his break right next to my bed and just stared at me "sleeping". I was so afraid to even breathe differently for fear he would realize I could see him in the dark. The bathrooms don't even allow sick people to wash hands with warm water since they have two tiny faucets (they are so small, your hands have to touch the white bowl while you rinse). My Digital Subtraction Angiography was done without any sedatives and minimal, localized pain relief. It was barbaric, like I was a soldier on a 1800 medical field, not even a stick to bite. Truly, it was very traumatic and haven't slept more than a few hours at a time since, as I keep recalling the feeling of the wire twisting past my internal organs into my neck then shooting die into my eye. I received no after care instructions besides "keep it dry". Thankfully I googled the procedure and found out I wasn't supposed to work out, lift anything more than 5 lbs, or go up stairs for a week. I had no idea and could have damaged my femoral artery, caused internal bleeding and DIED! I was discharged with no diagnosis for my symptoms, just a recommendation to seek a cardiologist in my home country. While I appreciate being released from the hospital bed (and wasting my time for three weeks), I am in the SAME situation I was in before I sought healthcare in Ireland with the same symptoms, pain, and petechiae rashes. They expect patients to heal but the atmosphere doesn't offer healthy food options, allow for sleep or even peaceful rest, delaying healing times, which is turn is delaying critical patient care for new patients. We had planned to host our wedding in Ireland. Now, I will never travel to Ireland again for fear of its incompetent health care. As a travel agent, I will warn travelers against the same. If this is the "best hospital in Ireland" then Ireland healthcare should be truly ashamed of itself."
"The lowest point of my life, the rock bottom. You would get better care in a medical war tent during WW2 than E&A in today's Ireland. Even if the doctors and nurses are doing their best, Beaumont Accident & Emergency is built and staffed to accommodate maybe 20 patients but it is overrun with 200. Nobody is safe in Ireland as there is no proper urgent care and wait time reaching up to 18 hours. The ER receptionist nurse was more concerned about the blood stain on the wooden counter than to get the patient seen. She was giving out about the counter getting dirty (bloody) while patient was trying to register his name and details with her choking in his own blood due to bleeding. After extreme internal and external bleeding, 1 hour wait for ambulance, ended up driving there and then waited another 40 mins by the ER door, heart rate going to dangerous levels due to blood loss but they don't take the patient in, as they have no space. When the patient was in after 40 mins he had to be brought to resuscitation room as it was too late. They don't even have trolleys left where your vitals can be monitored, elderly people, injured sick all getting primitive treatment on chairs. Collective suffering room, no privacy, no comfort for patients a big slap on the face after all the tax we pay for the Irish state. I have never seen such a neglected, primitive and desperate emergency service in my life. How Irish people put up with this inhumane conditions waiting 12 hours to be seen in ER and leaving 5 stars here and accusing "foreigners" for complaining? Unacceptable, no patient public nor private would wait more than 1-2 mins for an emergency service in my native country Turkey, 12h wait is a disgrace. In this day and age this hospital still operates on medieval methods, with paper checklists and phone calls between specialists, nothing is digitalised everything is paper based slow and inefficient. I equally felt so sorry for the hardworking nurses and the doctors inside the A&E they are equally abused by this broken system and obviously overworked and burned out. As long as people leave 5 stars here nothing would improve in this country. Poor health services is the number one reason why skilled expats/locals are leaving this country."
