Reviews
"We booked Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday. I'd already tried the ground floor bar on our last visit to Brighton and Loved it so, with the continuous good reviews, we tried the restaurant area. For us, we felt the upstairs really lacked atmosphere. We had our order taken quickly enough but it took 25 minutes for our bottle of wine to come, I was just about to leave when it arrived, and then another 20 for the food. The staff kept disappearing and there were many times there was just no one there. The table of 4 next to us arrived shortly after us and still hadn't had their food order taken 45 minutes in. My roast beef was good but my husband very disappointed with a small burger. It'll be a non return for us."
"Very good quality food, average price, nice interiors, nice staff. (In the photo, pie with pork and apples, mash potato, greens, gravy - very tasty)"
"Went in for one drink the other day, owner of the pub was arguing loudly with a member of his staff in the middle of the pub. The blonde lad behind the bar was polite but the other member of staff was very rude, rang the last orders bell absolutely deafeningly when there was about 3 people in the whole pub, was on her phone the whole time and made us feel like an inconvenience. Bad atmosphere"
"Top Quality Roast in friendly, amiable place, hitting that sweet spot between gastro pub and chilled local. Booked a Sunday lunch here after hearing from a friend that this is her go too for Sunday lunch. Hanover isn't too short on either decent pubs or cracking Sunday roasts, so there is some stiff local competition. On booking, I asked if they could cater for a friend who was gluten free, soy free and vegan, and my child, who being on the spectrum with sensory processing challenges, was particularly important. The staff checked and were able to cater for all of us. Winner winner, Sunday dinner! On sitting down the pub wasn't too busy but did fill up. Inside is cosy without feeling cluttered. Little Sims playing in the background helped for a chilled out Sunday vibe. Perfect! The vegan Wellington was just super. Three massive roast potatoes, savoy cabbage, braised red cabbage, beetroot, carrots, roast parsnips and parsnip crisps, with 2 generous slices of Wellington in a flakey pastry. The gravy was served on the side, which I really liked, as it meant I could attempt to tempt my kid into trying an actual vegetable. And also because I'm a fussy bint with gravy placement! The entire portion was enough to place me in a very happy food coma. Really helpful with regards to my kids limited pallet, and as other autistic folk will attest, this is so important when enjoying a meal out. So appreciated the flexibility. We ordered some roast chicken and pale Yorkshires for her beige food requirements. The rest of the menu, dotted around the pub on chalk boards, looks equally good. This is definitely going to be my go to for a decent Sunday roast, and I so want to try the other offerings. We all said, we've not had a roast this good for a very, very long time. Thank you so much."
"Excellent roast dinners! We’ve been going for 3 years now and never had another pub roast like it. Always great, we eat here during the week too as the daily menus are also delicious. Staff go out of their way to make everything a top notch experience. Highly recommend but booking is essential. The chef is brilliant. Try the prawns during the week they are sooooo good!!!"
