"Myself and my partner were looking for a property to rent for us and our unborn child. For a long time we really struggled and it started to seem as if we weren’t going to find a place in time to welcome our baby girl, constantly let down by other letting agents and in some cases even ignored. Until I arranged a viewing at a property with Amy from Purple Lettings. She was very welcoming and super easy to talk to. She explained everything about the property, landlord and what the steps consisted of if I put forward my interest.She could see how keen I was on the property and was very sympathetic towards how difficult our search for a home had been. I felt at ease discussing my situation with Amy as myself and my boyfriend are self employed, which can make things more difficult however she gave me very valuable, professional advice regarding providing the correct paperwork needed for the referencing. Thoughout the application process Amy super helpful and not at all pushy to rush us through everything. She was very responsive, always getting back to me very quickly. I would highly recommend Purple Lettings as without them we would not be moving into our perfect family home in time for our baby girl to arrive. Especially helpful if you find the whole process of applying for tenancies daunting and invasive."
"As tenants, we had a very meh experience with Purple Lettings. I want to give credit to the people I spoke to who were friendly and professional; very accommodating regarding rent payments not aligning with my student loan dates. However, the maintenance side is the main issue; when we first moved in, I was told they would be doing up the communal hall and have someone clean it due to still decorating other flats - this never happened. I ended up cleaning it throughout the year as the paint was peeling due to damp and there was always a nasty smell. During the first few months of moving in, I repeatedly reported wet patches on the bedroom ceiling, growing every time it rained; everyone knows Plymouth loves to rain. Instead of sending someone to fix and inspect the issue, they sent a decorator who merely painted over the wet patches. After nearly two months of repeatedly informing them the damp patches were growing, water started coming through my ceiling onto my bed and belongings in the middle of the night. We called the emergency number, which was of no help. The next day they came and discovered the gutters were full of leaves and other debris, which they blamed on next door. This could have been easily avoided if they had just inspected the issue in the first place. We also had an issue with the bathroom shower screen leaking; again I had to report it repeatedly. The removal seal on the shower screen was broken/worn out and ideally needed replacing (which was between £8-10 online, which I even offered to buy myself). Instead of replacing it, they sent 'maintenance' around to put silicone everywhere - this did not work. They proceeded to send maintenance 3 or 4 more times to add more silicone to the issue, which did not fix it - I just gave up reporting the problem. Additionally, I do not believe their 'inspections' before moving people in are very thorough; when we first moved in there was duct tape on the bath. I asked if I could remove it as I thought it odd, and they informed me it should be okay; however, we discovered there was a hole in the bath. After replacing the entire bath, this just led to more issues, after coming back from Christmas break, we found our shower taps were dented and the showerhead had stopped working. In addition, we were told by the maintenance people they would replace the shower screen and plastic backsplash, this did not happen and which also sustained damage during the replacement of the bath (again just tried to fix it with silicone). To top it off they had also not fitted/sealed the bath correctly, and it would move when anyone got in (which I reported, and they ignored) - this resulted in the flat below experiencing water coming into their flat whenever anyone had a bath or shower. We also had an issue with maintenance never informing us they were coming to the property and just randomly showing up - on a few occasions breaking some of our belongings while we were not in - if they had merely informed us they were coming we would have moved our stuff out their way before leaving the flat. I informed Purple Lettings of this and they just palmed us off basically saying it was not their problem. Finally, Purple Lettings randomly sent us an email stating our utility usage had exceeded our monthly allowance; after emailing for a breakdown, they informed us it was an error. However, after speaking to friends who also rented from Purple Lettings, they too had been receiving the same 'error emails'. This felt like a scare tactic to try and get us to use the least amount of utilities to save them money. In addition to the issues I have mentioned above, we had many other maintenance issues during our year there. And after having conversations with friends renting from Purple Letting they too had problems with maintenance and problems not getting fixed. I hoped for a better experience - however, it just added to my 3rd-year stress."
