"Lovely green area in south west London. Mixture of common, playing fields, woodlands, trails, formal gardens, remembrance, cafes & play parks. Literally stretches for miles and stradles the Lambeth - Croydon border. Can almost get out of earshot of the traffic. A dog walker and jogger's paradise. Everyone I met was friendly and sharing the mixed use space sensibly and with respect."
"A huge sloping meadow with a playground and toilet facilities on one end an a forest patch on the higher ground. On top, furthest away from the main roads, there is a botanical garden with a nice bistro: The Rookery Gardens. Most paths are paved. When it rains a lot the lower grounds become swampy. There's a major supermarket nearby if something was forgotten for the picnic."
"We strolled, at gaudy Vapor trailed sunset, past the iridescent fun fair, permanently locked into a pastiche of the 1990s. The southern path, furthest from the noise and exhaust fumes of the two urban dual carriageways, sees impromptu family parties being held, with gazebos, camping chairs, food to share. Lazing and chatting in the luxurious ebbing heatwave evening. Like ‘76, the worn sections of the pathways lose their grass cover to the west and tear of joggers and walkers, then the bare clay beneath splits open as it is exposed to the overly hot, climate change heat. We sit at the top of the rise, and the plaque on the bench points out Rose Hill, in front of it St Helier Hospital, both barely visible now that the evening comes to an end and warm night approaches. I like this place."
"Hands down one of my favorite places in Streatham so far. Lovely grass and quite some trees and flowers in the upper hill. A great place to enjoy a nice walk alone, with your families or dogs. While the streets of Streatham can be noisy with all the traffic, you get to enjoy peace and surround yourself with green nature by a walk of just a few minutes from home. Want to break away from work and pressure living in town, or just want to get closer to nature? No need to drive one hour to somewhere outside Great London, you can get it, well at least to some extent, right here in Streatham."
"The Common is a wonderful place for a walk. If you walk to the top you will come actoss a little cafe and the Rookery gardens. Early morning the gardens ars wonderful, full of birdsong, and squirrels scurrying around. A little piece of heaven"
