"I went in this jewellers to see how much money i would be offered for a 18ct yellow gold hallmarked 7 stone diamond ring. One of the diamonds was missing. Each diamond is .17 of a carat so times that by 6 and thats 1.02 carat. The ring weight is 3.2 grams including the stones. THE OFFER CAME BACK AT £120. So i asked for a breakdown, price for the gold and price for the diamonds. I cant give you a breakdown price its just an offer of £120.Well thats fair enough and i have to respect his offer. I then asked how much a gram he was paying for 18ct scrap as there was nothing in the shop giving the days price. He wouldn't answer the question. How much for 9ct and at this point i was politely asked to leave. THE 18ct SCRAP PRICE THAT DAY WAS £19.12. Now everyone should be aloud to make a profit and in other jewellers in walthamstow on wednesday 6th november 2013. i was offered from £16.50 to £18.50 a gram. I was offered £250 for the diamonds and £50 for the ring £300 in total from a different jeweller opposite Wilkinson in the market. SO MY ADVICE IS FIND THE SCRAP PRICE ONLINE THEN TAKE TO 3 JEWELLERS AND ALWAYS ASK THE DAYS FIX (what they are paying for hallmarked gold) AND NOTE DOWN THE WEIGHT. ALL 3 JEWELLERS SHOULD GIVE THE EXACT SAME WEIGHT. Happy to say i ended up £180 better off and only a 90 meter walk down the road."
