Reviews
"After reading the reviews, I was very excited to go to La Mesa. I loved the concept and imagined the food would be a beautiful experience. The atmosphere was lovely and very cosy. The food was well cooked. However, it lacked flavour and seasoning. Some of the elements in the dishes did not really come together. The wine was average. Tipping appears to be an expectation and staff could be overheard complaining about guests that chose not to tip."
"Outstanding service and food. Accommodated us when partner restaurant had an issue with our reservation and served us the most spectacular food on a whim. Can’t recommend enough"
"Wife booked this as a surprise after seeing the reviews. Cosy little restuarant but with a big personality. Very welcoming and attentive service. Chef also made the effort to check on us. The 6 course tasting meal was fantastic. We will definitely be back. One of the best meals I've had in a long time."
"Lovely meal here, slightly disconcerting not knowing the cost of the meal or wine before hand but I'm sure they'll tell you if you ask - it was £7 a glass of wine and £35 each for the meal itself for us. Service was lovely and homely. Foodwise, it was good, on our night we had rare beef and curry sauce on supermarket rice crackers, an odd but delicious combo; celeriac soup; prawn in salsa verde, mushrooms on brioche...the let downs were that the bread was cold and supermarket bought imo, the chicken main which was overdone, the parsnip accompanying it underdone (but the sauce absolutely stunning). Dessert definitely felt like an afterthought of whipped cream, caramel sauce and Sauternes but given the size of kitchen and the uncertainty of weekday covers it was always going to have to be something prepared earlier or quick on the go. Overall, great idea, definitely someone's aspirations come to life and well worth the price point."
"Amazing place. Love the concept. Wouldn't work for fussy eaters so if you are picky .. simply don't go. There is no menu, the host feeds you and it's an absolute delight. It is honest food, beautiful produce and absolutely rammed with taste. Perfect portions so you don't come away feeling uncomfortably stuffed. Five courses plus bread (which is a meal in itself and heavenly). What I really loved was the fact that there were no fancy processes, no pacojets were involved with this meal (very uncommon in good establishments these days) and it was accordingly deliciously simple. Definitely a must if you love food and you find yourself in this part of the world"
