The Pump House
About the Business
The Pump House is one of Bristol's most iconic establishments, located in the charming Hotwells neighborhood. Originally constructed over 200 years ago as a waterworks facility, this unique property has been transformed into a buzzing bar, restaurant, and point of interest. It boasts a stunning location at Merchants Road, overlooking the historic Floating Harbour, with unbeatable views of Bristol's scenic waterfront.
The restaurant at The Pump House is a welcoming space, offering a cozy and relaxed atmosphere for diners to enjoy. The chefs here create an exceptional range of dishes, all carefully crafted using locally sourced, fresh ingredients. The menu includes a range of classic British favorites, such as traditional fish and chips, succulent steak and ale pies, and hearty roast dinners. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
The bar at The Pump House is equally impressive, with an extensive selection of locally brewed beers, ciders, and real ales. Whether you're a beer aficionado or just looking for a refreshing drink, you'll find something to suit your tastes here. The bar also offers a carefully curated wine list, featuring a selection of red, white and rose wines that pair perfectly with the restaurant's menu.
In addition to serving delicious food and drink, The Pump House is a fascinating point of interest in its own right. Its stunning architecture has been preserved, with many original features still visible today. The building itself is older than the British Empire, having been constructed in 1797, and it has undergone many transformations over the years. Historical artifacts and references to the building's past can be found throughout the space, making it an intriguing spot to visit for history buffs and architecture enthusiasts alike.
In summary, The Pump House is a one-of-a-kind establishment that brings together great food, drink, and history. "Great position for a pub on a beautiful sunny day with a lovely beer garden/outdoor space. Was a bit surprised that they wouldn't sell us a simple portion of chips on a Sunday at ~2:30pm, so be aware they have a very set menu before you visit. Proceeded to just order drinks and the waitress told us that they only had 1 cider available :( Our two pints then took 20 minutes to be delivered, which was a little disappointing for what seemed like a quietish day. Overall has a lot of potential, and I hope for a better experience on my next visit."
"Popped in for a light lunch on a Sunday because we happened to be nearby, and we were very impressed. Lively bar/restaurant with fresh, high quality food. We had the Jerusalem artichoke soup, and the pork rillettes with pickled vegetables. Both were delicious. Our waitress was very attentive, and kept us informed when she had to check on specific matters or questions. She explained that it was her first day in the job, (and if management are reading this, the young lady who joined your staff on Sunday 12 February is an excellent addition to your team)! I had an excellent pint of bitter, but our only issue was with the house white wine which was really rather poor. That said, we would still highly recommend a visit."
"Lovely pub/eatery. Very stylish. A great location with a bear garden overlooking the harbour. Staff lovely. Espresso Martini was lovely! Over 40 gins available! Didn't try the food but looked nice."
"Nice relaxed atmosphere, quiet on my visit but can't imagine it being overly crowded and loud. Food was fine, bit too much salt for my taste but that might be just me. Standard is definitely better than normal pub food."
"Great location. Food is good pub grub and drinks are great. Staff could be friendlier but it was a particularly busy day so maybe they were stressed. Giving three stars because it has so much more potential considering its location. Would like to see this pub do more."
