Reviews of The Queen Victoria Inn
"Highly recommend this wonderful traditional pub!. Currently decorated as a Gingerbread House for the festive season. The decorations are extensive and incredibly photo worthy. Fundraising for the extremely important work done by Children’s Hospice South West. There is the pub itself and train carriages which are individual pods to seat and eat / drink in - all currently with heating(!). Also a “hut” in the car park selling mulled cider mince pies tea coffee and so on. We spoke briefly with the landlord who was friendly funny and welcoming - he was outside in -6•c weather checking everyone was ok and assisting with car parking. We had mulled cider and pigs in blankets on sticks as a bar snack. We were fortunate to be able to sit in one of the train carriages. Very much enjoyed the evening and recommend this as a wonderful festive event and worthy fundraiser…car parking is a little challenging however completely possible slightly further along the road (take a torch) disability access possible depending upon disability. I would strongly suggest that you book a table if you want to eat here - - not just over the festive season but anytime. In the winter please remember the location is remote on the Mendip hills and prone to cold and occasional snow flurries - wear suitable footwear and clothing!!!!!"
"Had a lovely meal here (excellent lamb shanks, followed by sticky toffee pudding and caramel apple pie). Very good, home-cooked pub food. Wide range of local cider available (tried 2 different ones, both great) & selection of well-kept beers on hand-pump. Other half had Butcombe. Staff friendly & welcoming. Pub has a fun & cosy vibe: 'beach huts' outside can be reserved (they all have regal names - see photo); there was a roaring fire in the huge inglenook (bread oven at the side looks useful? ); hugely entertaining banquettes created from an upright piano (very popular with families). Would like to visit in December - photos and online videos of the pub as a gingerbread house look amazing!"
"We arrived just after 2pm to be told the kitchen was closed, but they did offer to make us some cheesy chips which we were very grateful for! My disabled mother-in-law was more than able to make her way through, and the carpark had plenty of space. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and the fire was very warming on the cold autumn day! Plenty of space, lots of tasty drinks on menu - and I guess in a warm day you could sit outside! Will definitely come back again."
"Friendly, characteristic pub, good beer and food in a fabulous location. We had great service from the two lads in charge. Good selection of food on the lunchtime menu, many quite traditional, well presented and tasty."
"Beautiful pub, beautiful food! Very friendly. As a lone female travelling around i find it a little intimidating eating out alone sometimes, but this place was absolutely lovely. Very generous food portions and very tasty. Will be back again!"
