"Plenty of area for a dog walk. If sticking to the dam it is about 40 minutes walk to get round at an easy pace. However there are paths out to increase the size of the walk if wanted."
"Another trail for pleasant easy walk CARR MILL DAM, St. Helens. This is another local gem, so quick to get to and a nice easy stroll, rather than a full-on hike. Just off the East Lancs Road, set satnav for WA11 7LX, and lots of free parking off the main road. Good dry pathways so trainers will be fine, even I came out clean, (may be muddy in parts after lots of rain) and is reasonably accessible for pushchairs and lighter wheelchairs. Obviously a local fishing spot (private only) and brilliant for birdwatching and photography, especially at the northern end of the loop. You can't fail here!"
"Carmill, it's pretty muddy this time of year, but still plenty to see. Keep an eye out for the kingfisher's and heron's along with lots of other wildfowl. See if you can spot any pheasants, especially the colourful male with its red and gold plumage and vivid Scarlett head."
"Free parking if you drive just a little bit past The Waterside pub. Wear your wellies between November and March if you plan to walk around the entire Dam! Take some bread for the ducks/swans/Canadian Geese and take some seed/bird nuts for the Black Caps, Nut Hatches and Robins! The three Heron are near the arches and if you're lucky you can catch a glimpse of the Kingfishers! There's also Eurasion Jay and Buzzard if you're lucky to spot them. Loads of Grey Squirrel also. It's a very pleasent place to walk!"
"Stunning natural beauty meets incredible engineering. A wonderful place to take the kids, walk the dog, or simply enjoy a good walk. Besides the lake, there is a cafe for refreshments, and forest covered walks. Whatever the weather, whatever the reason, this place is always a pleasure to visit."
