The George

"A little disappointed. This pub had come highly recommended so maybe we’d built up our expectations. Plus it’s advertised as “fine dining” which is certainly isn’t. We had gone for the pie and fish and chips which are apparently amazing. However very limited menu on a Sunday. Either Sunday dinner or fish pie. Portions were small and the food was Luke warm. Had a pudding because still had plenty of room left but everything comes with either ice cream or sorbet. Asked for custard and the waitress said “we don’t do custard, but we get loads of people ask for it”. Maybe take the hint? Has the potential to be really good. Maybe we should try a different day to a Sunday."

"We had a Christmas fayre here in December. We took some friends from Bristol as it was something that was a little more special. They loved it, we had a few dietary requirements which were actioned very well. The meal was superb, and every one commented on how lovely the whole experience was. Lovely staff and gorgeous food, and nothing was any trouble. Exceptional place to eat and I wouldn't hesitate it any way to recommend to anyone."

"Came last Monday at lunch time for my mother's wedding reception. Everyone who came though the food was wonderful. We were all made to feel extremely welcome, the atmosphere was great . Thank you Craig and Lucy who went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met and for your amazing service on my mother's special day . I would definitely recommend the George to anyone . "Took my mum for lunch this afternoon without a reservation which was no problem and was made to feel welcome. The food was excellent and I enjoyed the items from the tapas menu. You could really tell the team had pride in what they were doing and made it a really good experience. Will certainly be visiting again."

"UPDATE 25/06/22 My wife and daughter went to The George today. She wasn't aware that food orders stopped at 14.15 hours. Lovely Lisa behind the bar was really friendly and bubbly so drinks were ordered instead. She came out later after the drinks had been made and said the chef was willing to cook for my wife and daughter. What a fantastic thing to do and the chef was amazing. The food came out and it was absolute perfection. Many thanks to Craig and the staff he employs. A great asset to the business. .................................................................. Unbelievably awesome food with great service. Ruined by a pretentious table sitting next to me that thought paying a few pounds more for a meal and drinking a couple of bottles of wine meant that they could pick fault at it and look down at those that served them. Please leave your huge egos at the door and enjoy the food and hospitality offered at this great restaurant. Many thanks to the owner for all the hard work he has put into opening this place up again and to all the staff who work there. To the other table, yes maybe you should go to Mcdonalds next time. My 12 year old daughter thought you were... how should I put it, female genatalia."
