Reviews of The Bull & Stirrup Hotel - JD Wetherspoon
"Only ate here. Standard Weather spoons meal. Unfortunately because of food shortages I didn't get my side salad or grilled tomato with my steak, but I was still charged full price. I asked for an extra mushroom in place of the missing items and received 2, which was good. The staff were friendly and made us welcome. Just wish they had had a notice or pointed out the food shortages before we ordered and paid, I would have chosen the cheaper version of my steak meal."
"We had a room booked in January but unfortunately as we was travelling we had a phone call from the manager that the previous customer had fallen through some glass and the bathroom was ruined. He very kindly got to work contacting other hotels for us in the city as an alternative. Managed to get us a lovely room in the Queens hotel and as it was more expensive they said if we came down they would refund us the extra and give us a round of drinks on the house. I just wanted to say a big thank you! And for the drinks. We managed to still have a lovely night in Chester for my brothers birthday. These things happen and It was really appreciated that the manager took time out from I'm sure was a busy weekend to help us. I hear they are having a refit so will definitely be booking again in the future."
"Had our breakfast here and as to be expected we were not disappointed. Food tasty and hot, coffee flowing freely and all for a very reasonable price. Only reason not 5 stars was the time taken to recieve food after it was ordered give pub was reasonably quiet."
"This is a lovely pub in the heart of Chester. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service was good. We had a Christmas dinner which was really nice. Afterwards we fancied the mince tart but was disappointed to find it came in a wrapper and not in a dish. Just an idea it would have been delicious if it had have been slightly warm with either custard or cream. I don't think anyone would have minded paying a little extra for it. Instead it was as if I,d been in a shop and bought one."
"Really disappointed! I wanted to spend some time with my friend and enjoy one drink (a cider) with some food. To my surprise I was asked for ID, despite clearly being over 18 (I am 26 years old!). Fair enough - it was my fault I did not have ID on me. I did show picture of my ID from my phone, they said that was unacceptable, (also fair enough). However, after already spending our money on food and drink with the imagination of relaxing and enjoying some time out, I was quite rudely being told to leave. I am now aware of the policy of the pub after 9pm but the meaner of which I was spoken to was just unfriendly and unprofessional. The problem escalated after the waitress said we could take our dinner away or just have nothing, she did not hint or give a refund as an option for us. We spoke to the waitress calmly and asked if we could just eat the food in the pub and not have any alcohol instead. She went to speak to her manger...When she came back a refund was now an option. At first, we chose to take away food, but then quickly changed our mind in LESS than one minute to say we actually did want a refund and that we just wanted to leave. My friend spoke to the waitress to ask for a refund, but wait...now it is not possible because the food had already been made? If that was the case why was refund ever an option? My friend then asks if we could have a refund on the drinks instead since I was being kicked out and he didn´t want to sit on his own. At first they said "no" because the pint had already been poured...but they then later changed their mind. Whilst the waitress was speaking to us, we both felt she was very rude with us and very unprofessional. We felt they just were going to take our money and kick us out with no warning. As well when my friend spoke to (who I assume is) the manager was very rude also. My friend felt he was very passive aggressive. In the end we just took our food and left to enjoy it cold! We had to wait until we got home to reheat the food in the oven.... The IRONY is only a couple of hours earlier I was with my classmates from University having lunch. I ordered a CIDER and no ID was needed."
