“Suprised i've never tried Silver Hake before. Definetly one of the best fish and chips around, to be honest cant think of anything local that is better. Regualr fish and chips cost £4.90 which is reasonable. Portion size was good. FIsh fried to order so was nice and fresh and hot. Chips are amazing, dont know what they fry them in but they taste delicious and completly different from other chip shops. This is without a doubt going to be our go to fish and chips place. Look forward to trying other items off their menu.”

As simplistic as the experience can be, it can also, given the correct venue, offer an experience that pull on the heart strings. A fish and chip shop like Dad’s Lane Fish Bar took my expectations to a new level. First of all, it has a restaurant, which is themed to match its dishes. The service is friendly, warm and chatty with its Greek Cypriot roots. The owner informed me that the venue has been running for 15 years. It is obvious to see why. The food is sensational. Everything is prepared fresh. The fish is succulent. The chips have bounce and, given my lean, the peas had substance. I don’t remember enjoying fish and chips this much for a long long time. Dad’s Lane Fish Bar is up there with the mighty Bedders, arguably Birmingham’s finest. Thank you for offering a memorable experience.”

“Wow! As soon as I arrived there was something amazing to see. There were huge metal sculptures of animals in the car park and lush green plants at every turn. As I meandered along the paths the African music made me feel calm and restful. There was a waterfall and so much more. The jerk chicken, rice and peas meal with mixed steamed veg was delicious! I highly recommend this place for a great day out.”

“Came here a few days after my birthday to say thank you to the owner and we had some food. We were not disappointed. The seabass (pic) was a "perfect balance of spices" according to my stepdad. I tried the chilli fish and sheesh kebab starters and mom had the Chinese vegetable Noodles. All the food tasted amazing the chef and his crew are very welcoming. We will be attending again with more family members for more!!”

“I had a roast dinner, partner had scampi. We both had an abundance of food which was piping hot. Meat, roast and mash potatoes, 3 different veg, stuffing and a Yorkie. Add a couple of drinks total less than £20. Staff very friendly will definitely be returning.”

“Came here for a drink and to take in the view, following a recommendation from a friend. We got straight in with no waiting, it was very quiet in the bar, but the restaurant was getting quite busy, with people coming in for afternoon tea. Picked a cocktail, they were priced between £13-£14.50 each, which didn't think was too bad, for this type of restaurant, so was pleasantly surprised, when the lady behind the bar said that the cocktails were £14.50 each or 2 of the same cocktails for £14. So instead of 2 cocktails for £29, we got 4 cocktails for £28. The views from the 25th floor over Birmingham are lovely and looked even better in the sunshine. Well worth a visit, even, if just for a drink.”

“I had a great evening here yesterday with friends there's always a warm welcome from the staff and a good, reasonably priced beer from the well stocked bar. Zain, who runs the kitchen, goes out of his way to match your food order to individual tastes, I had a lamb balti which was the best I've had in a long time, the lamb was melt in the mouth, lovely sauce, was beautifully spiced and a generous portion, rice and naan were great too. All my friends were very satisfied with their food too, you'd have to go a long way to get food of this quality at these prices so I would certainly recommend a visit.”
